10th Inter-University Moot Court Competition 2026 on Constitutional Law, Law College Dehradun (Prize Pool Rs 85,000)

The Inter-University Moot Court Competition of Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University, is an annual national moot built around Constitutional Law and administered by the college's Moot Court Society. The 10th edition will be held physically at the Law College Dehradun campus from 9 October 2026 to 11 October 2026.

Earlier editions were won by NUJS Kolkata, National Law University Jodhpur, Hidayatullah National Law University, Chanakya National Law University Patna, Christ (Deemed to be University) Bangalore, Lloyd School of Law Greater Noida, Army Law Institute Mohali, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Punjab and NMIMS Chandigarh. Thirty-two institutions, including several National Law Universities, qualified for the oral rounds of the 9th edition in 2025.

• Students pursuing the three-year or five-year LL.B. course at any law school, college or university in India recognised by the Bar Council of India are eligible.
• LL.M. students may also participate provided they are not enrolled as advocates with the Bar Council.
• An institution may nominate only one team.
• A team has a maximum of three members (two designated oralists and one researcher) and a minimum of two members (both designated as oralists). No additional person may accompany the team.
• Every team is allotted a team code on final registration and must not disclose its identity to judges or other teams. Disclosure results in immediate disqualification.
• The official language of the competition is English. Court dress standards apply, but robes and collars are not permitted.

Registration runs in two stages. Teams must complete pre-memorial registration with a non-refundable fee of Rs 2,000 by 10 September 2026, using the official pre-memorial registration form. Teams that clear the memorial elimination round then complete post-memorial registration with a further fee of Rs 4,000, so a team that reaches the oral rounds pays Rs 6,000 in all.

The official timeline fixes 2 October 2026 as the last date for post-memorial registration and for submitting the travel plan. The hospitality clause in the brochure refers to 5 October 2026 for the same submission, so qualifying teams should confirm the operative date with the organisers.

The moot proposition was released on 8 August 2026 and is available in the competition documents folder. Clarifications on the proposition or the rules may be sought by email at lcdmcs@uumail.in by 5 September 2026, and clarifications are released on 8 September 2026.

• Each team prepares memorials for both the petitioner and the respondent, and submits soft copies through the official memorial submission form by 13 September 2026.
• Files must be named with the team code and the side, for example 1P for the petitioner memorial of TC-1.
• Ten hard copies, five from each side, must be handed to the administrators at the time of reporting on 9 October 2026, and must be identical to the soft copies.
• Memorials follow the prescribed sample format: A4, one side only, one inch margins, Times New Roman 12 with 1.5 line spacing, footnotes in Times New Roman 10 with single spacing, a limit of 35 pages for the arguments advanced, spiral binding, and cover pages in blue for the petitioner and red for the respondent.
• Citations follow the SILC manual. Explanatory or illustrative footnotes are not allowed.
• Memorials are marked out of 100 on knowledge of law and facts, analysis, depth of research, organisation and presentation, grammar, novelty of arguments and originality. Penalties apply for late submission, incorrect file names, format deviations and citation errors.
• The compendium of cited authorities is to be sent to lcdmcs@uumail.in by 5 October 2026 and may contain only the first page of each cited authority along with the relevant pages.

• A memorial elimination round follows evaluation of the memorials. The top 32 teams on memorial scores advance to the oral rounds on payment of the post-memorial fee, with results notified by 25 September 2026.
• A researchers' test of one hour is held on 9 October 2026 and is compulsory for every team. In a three-member team only the designated researcher writes it, and that researcher may not address the bench in the oral rounds.
• Each team argues two preliminary rounds, once for the petitioner and once for the respondent, with 25 minutes per team and a cap of 15 minutes per speaker.
• The top eight teams advance to the quarter-finals on win-loss ratio and total preliminary score, with memorial scores as the tiebreaker. Quarter-finals allow 35 minutes per team, and the semi-finals and final allow 45 minutes per team.
• All advanced rounds are knockout rounds, sides are drawn by lots, and no team may reserve more than five minutes for rebuttal or sur-rebuttal.
• Scouting is prohibited, and electronic devices may not be used during the oral rounds.

Beyond the cash awards and trophies, the winning team receives a one year SCC Online subscription and internships at S.S. Rana & Co. The runners-up, the best memorial, both best counsel awards and the best researcher each carry one month of SCC Online access. Every participating team receives one month of SCC Online access and a certificate of participation.

Accommodation and food are provided to all teams by the administrators, along with conveyance between the place of accommodation and the college. Check-in is on 9 October 2026 at about 12.00 noon and check-out is on 12 October 2026 by 12.30 pm. Teams that check in earlier or stay beyond these dates must pay extra.
