About the competition

The Faculty of Law, Manipal University Jaipur, in association with the Ranka Public Charitable Trust, is holding the 12th Manipal Ranka International Moot Court Competition 2026. The competition runs partly online and partly in person: draw of lots and preliminary rounds on 2 October 2026 online, the researcher's test on 3 October 2026 online, and the inaugural ceremony with pre-quarter and quarter finals on 31 October 2026 followed by the semi-finals, final and valedictory ceremony on 1 November 2026 at the Jaipur campus.

Manipal University Jaipur was launched in 2011 at the invitation of the Government of Rajasthan as a self-financed State University. Its Faculty of Law offers the five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.), the LLB, the LLM and a PhD programme, all aligned to UGC, NEP and BCI requirements.

The moot problem

The 2026 proposition concerns a long-running international armed conflict between the Republic of Arkania and the State of Belvaria over sovereignty in the Orion Border Region, a territory holding vital transportation corridors and energy infrastructure. It raises the alleged establishment of operational bases inside densely populated civilian areas, including residential neighbourhoods, educational institutions and public infrastructure, and repeated cross-border attacks by military groups operating from the disputed territory.

The problem was released on 29 July 2026. Clarifications issued by the Organising Committee form part of the proposition.

Eligibility and team composition

  • Open to all students enrolled bona fide on a regular basis in an undergraduate law programme in any university or college, in India or abroad
  • Not more than one team per college, institution or university
  • Each team must comprise three members. A team of fewer or more than three is not permitted, except that the Organising Committee may allow a two-member team in exceptional circumstances after hearing the members on merits, and its decision is final

Registration

Teams register between 29 July 2026 and 23 September 2026 by 23:59 IST. The registration form must be completed with all team details and submitted online only. Teams receive a confirmation email once registration is done; team codes are intimated later.

A team is treated as formally registered only on payment of the full registration fee.

Fee

For Indian participants, the fee is payable in two stages: a non-refundable registration fee of INR 5,000 on registering, and a further INR 5,000 inclusive of food and accommodation for teams that qualify for the rounds after the preliminaries, payable on communication of qualification.

For international participants, the same two-stage structure applies at USD 50 on registering and a further USD 50 inclusive of food and accommodation on qualifying.

The registration fee is non-refundable. No claim for refund will be entertained.

Memorials, researcher's test and clarifications

Soft copies of memorials are due by 29 September 2026. Six hard copies from each side are to be submitted during the registration process at the venue.

A researcher's test is conducted on 3 October 2026 in online mode only, and decides the Best Researcher award.

Requests for clarification go only to the official email, by 4 September 2026 at 11:59 pm IST, after which no clarification is entertained. Clarifications are released on 11 September 2026 and relate only to the facts of the case, not to substantive arguments.

Structure and dress code

The competition proceeds through preliminary rounds, pre-quarter finals, quarter finals, semi-finals and the final. The rulebook sets out time limits, oral-round evaluation criteria, memorial marking criteria, compendium rules and plagiarism penalties in full.

Dress code for presentations: for women, white salwar kurta and dupatta, or white shirt with black trousers or skirt, with black coat and tie; for men, white shirt, black trousers, black tie and black coat. For all other functions the dress code is western formals for gentlemen and western or Indian formals for ladies.

Awards

A certificate of participation is given to all participants. Each award below carries a trophy and a certificate of appreciation alongside the cash prize.
