About the Symposium

The Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb), founded in 1981 and based at Maxwell Chambers, Singapore, holds the 15th Annual Commercial Arbitration Symposium on 5 November 2026. The Symposium returns to the Old Parliament House, with the working sessions held in the former parliamentary debating chamber.

The Symposium has no scheduled speakers or speeches. It is shaped by the delegates themselves through free-flowing discussion of current issues affecting the practice of commercial arbitration, moderated by experienced co-chairs from Singapore and abroad.

Format: delegate-led discussion

  • Each delegate is invited to submit at least two questions or topics for discussion when registering. There is no limit on the number of topics.
  • Additional questions may be emailed to secretariat@siarb.org.sg.
  • Delegates whose topics are selected will be invited to introduce them, followed by an open discussion.
  • Topics are grouped into themes and allocated to one of three working sessions. Session titles are not prescriptive; participants may raise any matter relevant to the practice of commercial arbitration.
  • The Symposium concludes with a networking drinks reception.

Date, time and venue

  • Date: Thursday, 5 November 2026 (in person only).
  • Time: the SIArb events listing and the official programme flyer give 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm Singapore time (UTC+8; 11:00 am to 2:30 pm IST). The flyer programme lists registrations from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm, opening remarks by Mr Andrew Pullen, President of SIArb, at 2:00 pm, and the three working sessions from 2:05 pm to 5:00 pm.
  • The registration form gives a different timing: registration 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm, programme from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm, and the networking reception from 5:30 pm. Check with the Secretariat before planning travel.
  • Venue: The Arts House, 1 Old Parliament Lane, Singapore 179429 (the Old Parliament House).

Sessions and co-chairs

  • Session 1: Arbitration - Institutions, Trends, New Rules, Practice and Procedure. Co-chairs: Joanne Lau (Secretary-General, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre) and Amanda Lees (Partner, Mallesons, Singapore).
  • Session 2: Tribunal - Jurisdiction, Powers, Duties and Arbitral Innovation. Co-chairs: Christine Artero (Arbitrator, Fountain Court Chambers) and Sreenivasan Narayanan SC (Sreenivasan Chambers LLC).
  • Session 3: Courts - Role of Courts, Support, Annulment, Enforcement, International Courts and Law. Co-chairs: Dinesh Dhillon (Partner, Allen & Gledhill) and Stuart Isaacs KC (Stuart Isaacs Chambers, Singapore).

Who can attend

The official flyer says the Symposium is for "arbitrators, arbitration counsel, litigators, in-house counsel, other users and professionals involved in arbitrators, academics and members of the business community interested in current developments in commercial arbitration. There is no expectation of any particular level of arbitration experience, and participants at all levels are welcome to attend and encouraged to pose questions and actively join in the discussion."

The registration form has three categories: SIArb member, members of reciprocal (partner) organisations, and non-member. No nationality restriction is stated, so practitioners, academics and students from India may register in the non-member category. Places are limited and subject to confirmation and payment, and SIArb asks participants to register early.

Registration fee (Singapore dollars)

  • SIArb members: SGD 195
  • Members of partner organisations (listed on the flyer: APIEx Regional Arbitral Institute Forum partners, Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, Singapore Corporate Counsel Association, Singapore Institute of Architects, Society of Construction Law (Singapore) and Hungarian Arbitration Association): SGD 295
  • Non-members: SGD 395

Payment is by bank transfer, internet banking or PayNow; bank details are in the official registration form, which asks for immediate transfer. Proof of payment must be uploaded in the form to secure a place. Registration fees are non-refundable, including for cancellations and no-shows; substitutions may be permitted with at least 5 days' prior written notice, subject to approval and any fee difference.

How to apply

Register through the official Microsoft Form linked on this page: give your email, name, organisation, designation and membership category, choose the payment type, and upload proof of payment. The Symposium page invites each delegate to submit at least two questions or topics for discussion when registering; additional questions may be emailed to secretariat@siarb.org.sg.

No closing date for registration is published. Places are limited, so register well before the event day; we list 4 November 2026 as the last safe date because the event takes place on 5 November.

Annual Dinner and CPD

Delegates are invited to the SIArb Annual Dinner immediately after the Symposium (listed by SIArb for 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm on 5 November 2026); Symposium registrants receive 20% off the Annual Dinner. The flyer lists the Symposium as an SILE accredited CPD activity (Practice Area: Alternative Dispute Resolution; Training Level: General; Public CPD Points: TBC). For CPD points, the SILE Attendance Policy applies: participants must sign in on arrival and sign out at the end, and must not be absent for more than 15 minutes.
