About the competition

The 1st Ajmal Moot Court Competition, 2026 (National Level) is organised by the Moot Court Society, Ajmal Law College, Hojai (Assam), under the aegis of the Ajmal Foundation. This inaugural national-level event is designed to promote excellence in legal research, memorial drafting, analytical reasoning, oral advocacy and courtroom practice among law students from across India. The competition is conducted in offline mode on 29th and 30th August, 2026 at the college campus in Hojai, Assam.

About the organiser

Ajmal Law College, Hojai, established in 2018 under the Ajmal Foundation, is affiliated to Gauhati University and approved by the Bar Council of India. It offers the Three-Year LL.B. and Five-Year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programmes. The Moot Court Society, constituted in 2024, prepares students for inter-collegiate and national moot court competitions through regular moot sessions, workshops and internal rounds.

Eligibility

  • Open to students currently enrolled in the Three-Year LL.B. Programme; or
  • Students enrolled in the Five-Year Integrated LL.B. Programme.
  • Only two teams per institution are permitted to participate.

Team composition

Each team shall consist of three members: two Speakers (Mooters) and one Researcher. The Researcher may appear for the Researcher's Test to be eligible for the Best Researcher Award.

Rounds and format

  • The competition is conducted offline at Ajmal Law College, Hojai, in English.
  • Structure: Preliminary Rounds, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final Round.
  • Each team argues two Preliminary Rounds (once from each side); the top eight teams advance to the Quarter-Finals on a knockout basis.
  • Teams must prepare memorials for both sides of the proposition (Bluebook 20th Edition citation).

Awards

Prize pool worth Rs 4 lakhs, with cash prizes exceeding Rs 2.45 lakhs, along with trophies, certificates and special awards including Best Memorial, Best Speaker and Best Researcher. Participants argue before eminent members of the Bench, Bar and Academia.

How to register

Complete the official Provisional Registration Google Form on or before 30th July, 2026 and submit the required documents (institution details, participant details and bonafide certificates / student IDs). Final registration is confirmed on payment of the registration fee. The competition brochure and rulebook contain the full rules and moot proposition.
