About the Competition

IILM School of Law, Gurugram is organising the First Edition of the IILM National Trial Advocacy Competition, 2026, to be held from 24th to 26th September 2026 at the IILM University campus, Sector 53, Gurugram. Envisioned as a premier national platform for aspiring litigators, the competition aims to cultivate excellence in courtroom advocacy, legal research and trial strategy, and brings together members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, academicians and students from across the country.

Theme and Proposition

The 2026 edition is themed "Domestic Violence and Abetment of Suicide: Intersection of Criminal Liability, Victim Protection, and Constitutional Safeguards." The proposition engages participants with the interplay between Sections 3, 18, 20 and 31 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, alongside Section 85 and the provisions relating to abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and raises constitutional questions concerning the right to life, dignity, equality and due process under the Constitution of India.

Eligibility and Team Composition

  • Open exclusively to students enrolled in a three-year or five-year LL.B. programme during the current academic year at any recognised institution.
  • Each institution may send up to two teams.
  • Inter-institutional teams are strictly prohibited; all members must belong to the same institution.
  • A team shall ordinarily consist of three members: Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and Researcher.
  • With prior approval of the Organizing Committee, a two-member team may participate, with one member assuming the dual role of researcher and speaker.

Registration Fee

  • Without accommodation: Rs 4,000 per team.
  • With accommodation: Rs 7,000 per team (accommodation for 3 days, triple occupancy).

Both tiers include participation of the full team, access to all rounds, registration kit, certificates, access to inaugural and valedictory ceremonies, campus access, refreshments and meals, and memorial evaluation. Payment is to be made via the UPI details in the brochure (Merchant: IILM University; VPA: IILMU.05@CMSIDFC).

How to Register

  1. Pay the prescribed registration fee through the UPI/QR details in the official brochure.
  2. Complete the official Google Registration Form linked in the brochure.
  3. Upload a clear copy of the payment acknowledgement/receipt in the form.
  4. Upload the Letter of Authorisation issued by your university/institution.
  5. Registration is confirmed only on submission of the form with the payment proof and Letter of Authorisation; a confirmation email follows.

The last date of registration is 20 August 2026.
