About the Workshop

The NLIU-DPIIT IPR Chair at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal is organising a two-day online National Workshop titled Changing Paradigms of Intellectual Property: Opportunities and the Road Ahead on 10 and 11 August 2026.

India's intellectual property regime has moved a long way since the TRIPS-compliant amendments, the National IPR Policy 2016 and mission-mode initiatives such as Startup India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Even so, the practical difficulties have not gone away. Enforcement remains uneven, criminal remedies are used inconsistently, and courts continue to grapple with repeat and habitual infringement, sentencing standards, summary trial procedure and the compounding of IP offences. On top of that, artificial intelligence, synthetic media and blockchain are redrawing what infringement even looks like.

The workshop brings members of the judiciary, policymakers, practitioners, industry representatives, academicians and students onto one platform to work through these questions and to think about where India's IP framework goes next.

About NLIU Bhopal and the NLIU-DPIIT IPR Chair

The National Law Institute University, Bhopal was established in 1997 and is recognised by the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India. It is one of India's earliest national law universities and is known for an interdisciplinary approach to legal education and research.

The NLIU-DPIIT IPR Chair was set up by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA). The Chair works to build a stronger intellectual property ecosystem in the country through IPR education and pedagogy, focused research, closer links between academia and industry, and public awareness of intellectual property rights.
