About the Competition

The 2nd National Level Trial Advocacy Competition, 2026 is organised by the Moot Court Committee, Faculty of Law, The ICFAI University, Himachal Pradesh. The Competition is designed to give law students practical exposure to trial court proceedings and to develop essential skills in advocacy, examination-in-chief, cross-examination, re-examination, objections, appreciation of evidence, case strategy and courtroom etiquette.

The Faculty of Law, The ICFAI University, Himachal Pradesh has been ranked 1st among the Top Law Schools of Himachal Pradesh and 33rd among the Top Law Schools of India in the GHRDC Law School Rankings 2026.

Mode and Rounds

The Competition shall be conducted in hybrid mode across five stages on a knockout basis in the advanced rounds:

  • Online Preliminary Round: all registered teams participate.
  • Online Octa-Final Round: top 16 teams.
  • Offline Quarter-Final Round: top 8 teams.
  • Offline Semi-Final Round: top 4 teams.
  • Offline Final Round: top 2 teams.

The Preliminary and Octa-Final Rounds are conducted online. The Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, Final Round and Valedictory Ceremony are conducted physically at The ICFAI University, Himachal Pradesh Campus, Baddi.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to students duly enrolled in a full-time Three-Year LL.B. Programme or Five-Year Integrated LL.B. Programme from any institution recognized by the Bar Council of India or any competent authority. Only one team from each institution shall be allowed to participate.

Team Composition

Each team shall consist of three members: two Counsels and one Witness. No change in team composition shall be permitted after registration without prior written approval of the Organizers. The official language of the Competition is English.

Registration Fee

  • Online Preliminary and Octa-Final Rounds: Rs 3,000 per team.
  • Offline Advanced Rounds without Accommodation: Rs 2,000 per team.
  • Offline Advanced Rounds with Accommodation: Rs 4,000 per team.

How to Register

Interested teams shall register through the official registration form circulated by the Organisers (Scan-to-Register QR code available on the official brochure and event page). Registration through email or any other mode shall not be accepted unless expressly permitted by the Organizers. Teams must upload the payment receipt, an authorization letter signed by the Head of Institution/Dean/Competent Authority bearing the official seal, and student identity cards of all team members. Incomplete forms, incorrect details, missing attachments or non-payment of fee will result in rejection of the registration.

Written Submissions

Each team shall prepare Written Submissions for both Prosecution and Defence in PDF format, submitted as two separate files. Formatting: A4 paper, Times New Roman, font size 12 (footnotes 10), 1.5 line spacing, justified, 1 inch margins, ILI citation style, maximum 30 pages. A similarity index exceeding 20 percent after standard exclusions shall not be acceptable and may attract penalty or disqualification. Each written submission carries 100 marks.
