3rd National Level Moot Court Competition 2026 at IIMT College of Law, Greater Noida (Oct 29-30; Cash Prizes Rs 51,300; Register by Oct 15)

IIMT College of Law, Greater Noida, is holding its 3rd National Level Moot Court Competition on 29 and 30 October 2026 at its own campus in Knowledge Park-III, Greater Noida. The competition is organised under the aegis of the college's IQAC and Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5, 10 and 16, with support from the District Legal Services Authority, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The brochure names Manupatra as the Official Knowledge Partner.

The brochure says the competition aims to give students practical exposure to the Indian judicial system and to build legal research, drafting, critical thinking and oral argumentation skills in a realistic courtroom setting.

IIMT College of Law is located in Knowledge Park-III, Greater Noida. It is affiliated to Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, and approved by the Bar Council of India. The college offers B.A. LL.B. and LL.B. programmes and runs moot court competitions, national seminars, debates and conferences, as well as free legal aid and legal awareness camps with the District Legal Services Authority.

Kavya, a 24-year-old woman with no independent income, signs a prenuptial "Matrimonial Understanding and Financial Responsibility Agreement" without independent legal advice. It restricts her maintenance, employment and financial claims. After months of alleged physical and psychological abuse, she strikes her husband with a heavy household object during a confrontation, and he dies. The Sessions Court convicts her of murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and sentences her to life imprisonment. The High Court upholds the conviction and enhances the sentence to death. The matter is now before the Supreme Court of India, where the Women's Rights Commission has been allowed to intervene. The issues framed are:

• Whether a prenuptial agreement that substantially restricts a wife's rights to maintenance, employment, financial independence and matrimonial autonomy, executed by a less-educated woman without independent legal advice, is legally and socially enforceable, and whether such agreements reinforce structural gender inequality in marriage.
• Whether the death penalty imposed on Kavya satisfies the "rarest of rare" doctrine, and whether the High Court's enhancement of the sentence from life imprisonment to death warrants reconsideration.
• Whether prolonged domestic violence, psychological abuse, matrimonial humiliation, socio-economic condition, the absence of prior criminal conduct and the exceptions of private defence and grave and sudden provocation are mitigating circumstances that outweigh the aggravating circumstances.

• Open to bona fide students of three-year and five-year LL.B. programmes.
• Each team has three members: two Mooters and one Researcher.
• Only one team may register from each law college or university.
• The oral rounds may be conducted in English or Hindi.
• Participants must not disclose the identity of their institution during the proceedings. Doing so may lead to penalties, including disqualification.
• Each registered team receives a unique Team Code in its confirmation email.

• The registration fee is Rs 2,100 per team.
• Fill in the online registration form with complete team details, including each participant's name, contact number and year or semester of study, by 15 October 2026.
• Upload a screenshot of the fee payment in the registration form.
• Participants' names cannot be changed once the registration form has been submitted.

• Each team submits soft copies of memorials for both sides by 11:59 PM IST on 22 October 2026 to legalaidcell_gn@iimtindia.net, in both PDF and DOC/DOCX format.
• Cover pages must be blue for the Petitioner and red for the Respondent, with the Team Code in the top right-hand corner. Memorials without the Team Code will not be evaluated.
• The memorial must contain only these heads, in this order: Cover Page, Table of Contents, List of Abbreviations, Index of Authorities, Statement of Jurisdiction, Statement of Facts, Issues Raised, Summary of Arguments, Arguments Advanced and Prayer.
• Formatting: English; Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing in the body; Times New Roman 10 pt, single spacing in footnotes; 1-inch margins; A4 paper; justified text; Bluebook (21st edn.) citations.
• Page limit: 32 pages for the whole memorial, with Arguments Advanced capped at 20 pages.
• No amendment is allowed after submission, and arguments not in the memorial cannot be raised in the oral rounds. Any identifying mark other than the Team Code leads to disqualification, and memorials must be original and free of plagiarism.

• Researcher's Test and draw of lots on 29 October 2026. All Mooters must attend the draw of lots and all Researchers must sit the Researcher's Test.
• Preliminary Round: one round, in which each team argues once for the side decided by the draw of lots.
• Quarter-Final: the top eight teams on cumulative Preliminary scores argue in a knockout format.
• Semi-Final and Final: knockout rounds on 30 October 2026, with sides decided by draw of lots.
• Each team gets 15 minutes in total for both Mooters' oral submissions, plus 5 minutes for rebuttal.
• Oral rounds are marked on knowledge of the law (25), questions and answers (20), use of authorities (15), knowledge of the facts (10), style and demeanour (10), organisation and time management (10), and articulation and innovation (10).
• Reporting time on each day of the event is 9:00 AM.

Women: white salwar-kurta with dupatta, or a white shirt with black trousers, with a black advocate's coat, black tie and formal black footwear. Men: white formal shirt, black trousers, black tie, black advocate's coat and formal black shoes.

The brochure advertises "attractive prizes up to Rs 1,01,001". The cash prizes it itemises add up to Rs 51,300, and those are the amounts listed on this page. A certificate of participation is given to every participant.
