Overview

If courtroom craft is where you feel most alive, this is a chance to test it on a real trial stage. The 3rd Shri O.P. Tandon Memorial Mock Trial Competition 2026 is hosted by the Trinity Institute of Professional Studies (TIPS), Dwarka, New Delhi, an institution affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Over examinations, cross-examinations and final arguments, your team gets to run a case from end to end, the way it actually happens in a trial court.

The competition is open to law students across the country, carries a total prize pool of 51,000 rupees, and runs across preliminary, semi-final and final rounds in August and September 2026.

About the organiser

Trinity Institute of Professional Studies is a Dwarka based institution affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi. It holds NAAC Grade A accreditation, is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and recognised by the University Grants Commission, and its law programmes are approved by the Bar Council of India.

The law wing runs full time undergraduate legal education and organises this memorial mock trial as a flagship litigation skills event for students who want practical trial experience.

What is involved

This is a trial advocacy competition, not a moot on appellate arguments. Your team works a single criminal trial problem through the full courtroom process.

  • Counsels lead the case with examination in chief, cross examination and final arguments.
  • Witnesses take the stand and are examined and cross examined by both sides.
  • A researcher backs the team on law, evidence and procedure.
  • Teams prepare and submit memorials for both sides of the case.

The competition runs in a hybrid format. The preliminary rounds on 21 and 22 August 2026 are conducted online, while the semi-final and final rounds on 5 September 2026 are held in person at TIPS, Dwarka, New Delhi.

Who can apply

The competition is open to students currently enrolled in a recognised law programme.

  • Students pursuing a three year LL.B. or a five year integrated LL.B. programme are eligible.
  • Each institute may send a maximum of two teams. Where an institute sends two teams, only one of them advances to the semi-final stage.
  • A team consists of five members: two speakers or counsels, one researcher and two witnesses. A team of a minimum of four members is also permitted, with the researcher taking on a witness role.

What it costs

Registration is on a per team basis.

  • Regular registration fee: 3,000 rupees per team.
  • Early bird fee: 2,500 rupees per team for teams that register on or before 12 July 2026.
