About the CAN Foundation

The Confederation of Alumni for National Law Universities (CAN Foundation) is a non-profit organisation working on constitutional values, legal education and access to justice through academic initiatives, research and public engagement. It regularly organises symposia, conferences and webinars in collaboration with National Law Universities across India, and runs student support projects such as Project Eklavya and Prasthanam.

About the Symposium

The CAN Foundation is holding the 5th Justice H.R. Khanna Memorial National Symposium, 2026 on Saturday, 1 August 2026 at the Congregation Hall, Additional Building Complex, Supreme Court of India Campus, New Delhi. The symposium is organised in collaboration with the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata and Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU), Visakhapatnam.

The series commemorates Justice Hans Raj Khanna, whose dissent in ADM Jabalpur v. Shivkant Shukla during the Emergency remains one of the defining acts of judicial courage in Indian constitutional history. Four editions have been held so far, hosted with NLU Jodhpur and GNLU Gandhinagar, NLU Odisha and RMLNLU Lucknow, HNLU Raipur and NLIU Bhopal, and NALSAR Hyderabad and DNLU Jabalpur.

This is a registration-based symposium. There is no paper or abstract submission requirement, and attendance is on a first come, first served basis.
