About the Competition and the Organiser

The Moot Court Committee of Ramaiah Institute of Legal Studies (RILS), Bengaluru, is holding the 5th RILS Inter-University Moot Court Competition from 11 to 13 December 2026 at its campus. RILS is run by the M.S. Ramaiah Foundation, is affiliated to Karnataka State Law University and is approved by the Bar Council of India. The committee, set up in 2018, describes this competition as its flagship event, now in its fifth edition, bringing together teams from institutions across the country.

Moot Proposition

This edition is set in the fictional Republic of Navira, where the claims of patients living with rare and lifelong conditions have reached the Supreme Court. The problem draws on constitutional obligation, public health policy and judicial ethics, setting a patient's need for treatment against the State's administrative discretion and fiscal prudence, with a National Rare Disease Policy at its centre. The proposition was released on 22 September 2026. Clarifications may be sought through the official email until 27 October 2026.

Eligibility and Team Composition

  • Only one team may represent an institution.
  • A team has not more than three members: two speakers and one researcher, identified at registration. No observers or additional members.
  • No substitution after the registration form is submitted, except with the prior written permission of the organisers.
  • The competition is capped at 24 teams, accepted on a first-come, first-served basis once registration and fee payment are complete. The portal closes when 24 teams are reached, even before the deadline.

Registration Fee and Accommodation

  • Registration fee: Rs 3,500 per team, payable by bank transfer to the RILS account given in the rule book (Bank of Baroda). The fee is non-refundable once paid.
  • Accommodation is not included in the registration fee. It is available at an additional Rs 3,500 for 11 to 13 December 2026, for official team members only.
  • Teams arrange their own travel from the railway station or airport to the campus; no pick-up or drop-off is provided.
