9th Annual Conference of the Partnership, LLP and LLC Law Forum at Nottingham Trent University, UK (10 September 2026)

Nottingham Trent University hosts the 9th Annual Conference of the Partnership, LLP and LLC Law Forum on Thursday 10 September 2026. In the university's own words, the Conference "provides an opportunity to share expertise in partnership and LLP law, practice and policy" and "facilitates networking between academics, practitioners and policymakers in these areas".

The Forum was founded by Elspeth Berry, Associate Professor at Nottingham Trent University, who has taught and researched partnership law for thirty years and convenes the Conference. The event is a well-established annual fixture for anyone working on partnerships, LLPs, LLCs and other alternative forms of business organisation, and this edition draws its speakers from private practice, the tax and policy research sector, government departments and academia.

Attendance is open, and the organisers state the position plainly: the Conference "aims to bring together all those with an interest in partnerships, LLPs, LLCs and other alternative forms of business organisation in the UK and overseas. We endeavour to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible, and anyone with an interest in these areas is warmly invited to attend."

There is no restriction by jurisdiction, institution, bar membership or enrolment. Academics, research scholars, practitioners and policymakers from outside the United Kingdom may book a place directly through the university's online store. Note that this is a fully in-person event in Nottingham with no online or hybrid attendance option announced, so overseas participants should factor in travel and, where applicable, visa timelines before booking.

The published programme runs as follows:

• 9.00 – 9.45 am — Registration and refreshments.
• 10.00 – 10.10 am — Welcome by Elspeth Berry, Associate Professor, Nottingham Trent University.
• 10.10 – 11.10 am, Session 1 — Nikki Edwards (Fox & Partners) on "Preparing to Compete: Team Moves, Fiduciary Duties and Restrictive Covenants in LLPs and Partnerships"; Rachel Khiara and Clive Day (Knights plc) on private equity investment into partnership structures.
• 11.30 am – 12.30 pm, Session 2 — Tax updates from an HMRC team; Sebastian Gazmuri Barker (CenTax) on National Insurance Contributions.
• 1.10 – 1.20 pm — Round table discussion on the future of the Conference.
• 1.20 – 2.20 pm, Session 3 — Tim Robinson (Crowe UK LLP) on cyber risk in professional services firms; Mohamed Azmi (PhD candidate, Nottingham Trent University) on sanctions avoidance through partnership structures.
• 2.40 – 3.40 pm, Session 4 — A DBT team on the implementation of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023; Ray Blake (Risk Alert 247 Ltd) on likely criminal typologies concerning partnership abuse.
• 3.40 – 3.45 pm — Closing remarks and thanks, with adjournment at 4 pm.

Abstracts and speaker biographies are published in full on the NTU event page, and the organisers state that any further abstracts and biographies will be made available in due course on the Partnership, LLP and LLC Law Forum website.

Three rates are offered on the NTU online store:

• Standard rate — £80.
• Speakers and academics — £50.
• NTU staff and postgraduate students — free of charge.

Those registering under the NTU staff or student option are asked to use their NTU email address. If you are not sure which category of fee applies to you, the organisers ask that you email the convenor before booking.

Advance registration is required. Places are reserved through Nottingham Trent University's own online store, where each of the three rates can be added to the basket directly. The stated booking deadline is Wednesday 2 September 2026, but the organisers add a practical caution of their own: "please book before Wednesday 26 August to be sure of a place."

Joining instructions are sent out ahead of the event. If you have not received them by midday on Wednesday 9 September 2026, the organisers ask that you check your spam folder and, failing that, email the convenor.

The Conference takes place in Room N31/N38, Newton Building, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham. The NTU events listing gives the day as 9 am to 4 pm, which matches the printed programme; the booking page on the online store lists it as 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Registration and refreshments open the day, and the programme closes at 3.45 pm before those able to stay on adjourn to a local venue at 4 pm.
