Overview

National Law University, Delhi is inviting applications for the position of Academic Fellow under the K.L. Arora Chair on Criminal Law. This is a one-year contractual research role based on the University's Dwarka campus, carrying a consolidated remuneration of INR 50,000 per month. If you have a strong grounding in criminal law and a genuine appetite for research, this is a chance to work closely with a Chair Professor at one of India's leading law schools.

About the organiser

National Law University Delhi is a University of Law established by Act No. 1 of 2008, located at Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi. It is widely regarded as one of India's premier institutions for legal education and research.

The K.L. Arora Chair on Criminal Law was established by Justice D.P. Wadhwa (former Judge, Supreme Court of India), as executor of the Will of late Ms. Laj Bharti, in the name of her late brother Shri Kundan Lal Arora, Senior Advocate. The Chair was created to promote teaching, research and advocacy in the field of Criminal Law.

The role

As Academic Fellow you will:

  • Work under the supervision of the Chair Professor, or as decided by the University, on research in Criminal Law.
  • Pursue a demonstrable research track record in subjects within the scope of the call; interdisciplinary research is considered an advantage.
  • Be physically present at the University on all working days, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The appointment is on a contractual basis. The University reserves the right not to fill the position if a suitable candidate is not found.

Who can apply

  • LL.M. or a relevant Masters Degree in Social Sciences (Criminology/Psychology) from a recognised Indian or foreign university, with minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade), and a good academic record.
  • Applicants with a relevant Masters in Social Sciences must have a clear, demonstrable track record of interdisciplinary research involving law.
  • Proficiency in criminal laws is necessary.
  • Prior research experience, including field work and data collection, is desirable.

Compensation and details

  • Remuneration: INR 50,000 per month (consolidated), funded by the Chair.
  • Duration: One year initially, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
  • Location: NLU Delhi campus, Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi (on-site, full working days).
  • Application fee: INR 500 (non-refundable), paid online. SC/ST and PwD candidates are exempt.
