Competition format

The competition comprises the following rounds:

  • Two Preliminary Rounds
  • Quarter-Final Round (subject to the number of participants)
  • Semi-Final
  • Final

The top 8 teams with the highest aggregate scores from both preliminary rounds qualify for the quarter-finals. All rounds after the preliminaries are knockout rounds. There is no researcher's test. Teams must prepare separate memorials for both the Prosecution and the Defence, and bring their own witnesses for both sides.

Who can participate

Students pursuing a 3-Year LL.B. or a 5-Year Integrated LL.B. degree from colleges recognised by the Bar Council of India are eligible.

  • Team size: maximum 4 members (2 Speakers and 2 Witnesses).
  • To be eligible for the Best Speaker Award, a participant must act as a speaker in all rounds.
  • Member substitutions are permitted only with prior approval from the organisers.

Memorials and submissions

Teams prepare separate memorials for the Prosecution (Blue cover) and the Defence (Red cover). Memorials must be in A4, Times New Roman size 12, 1.5 line spacing, with 1-inch margins; arguments advanced may run to a maximum of 15 pages. Soft copies (PDF and Word) are submitted via the Google form shared by the organisers, with each side's memorial as a single file. Memorials must carry no college name, participant names, logos or identification marks, failing which the team is disqualified. Teams qualifying for advanced rounds must also submit three hard copies in spiral binding on the day of the competition.
