About the recruitment

The National Law University of Meghalaya, Shillong has issued two advertisements dated 6 October 2026 inviting applications for teaching positions in Law: one for permanent posts (No. NLUM/Rectt/63/Fac/2023/Vol-I/1881) and one for posts on a tenure basis (No. NLUM/Rectt/63/Fac/2023/Vol-I/1882). Together they cover 8 Law posts.

On 21 September 2026 the University cancelled its earlier faculty advertisements of 15 and 16 October 2025; these October 2026 advertisements are the current call.

Permanent posts (Meghalaya residents only)

Applications for the permanent posts are invited from eligible candidates who are indigenous inhabitants or permanent residents of Meghalaya.

  • Assistant Professor (Law): 3 posts (1 Unreserved, 1 Khasi and Jaintia, 1 Garo). Specialisation: Open. Pay: Academic Level 10, entry pay Rs 57,700 as per 7th CPC with other admissible allowances.
  • Associate Professor (Law): 1 post (Unreserved). Specialisation: Open. Pay: Academic Level 13A, entry pay Rs 1,31,400 as per 7th CPC with other admissible allowances.

The University follows the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy for the permanent positions.

Tenure posts

  • Assistant Professor (Law): 3 posts. Desirable specialisations: International Law and/or Intellectual Property Rights / Constitutional Law and/or Administrative Law / Commercial Law and/or Industrial Laws / Criminal Law and/or Forensic Sciences. Pay: Academic Level 10, entry pay Rs 57,700 as per 7th CPC with other admissible allowances.
  • Associate Professor (Law): 1 post. Specialisation: Open. Pay: Academic Level 13A, entry pay Rs 1,31,400 as per 7th CPC with other admissible allowances.

Tenure is three years, which may be extended subject to satisfactory annual performance or the continuing requirements of the University. The engagement is purely contractual and does not confer any right to regular appointment. Applicants must indicate the specialisation applied against in the application form.

Eligibility

Assistant Professor (Option A or B):

  • Option A: a Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) in a concerned/relevant/allied domain subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university (5% relaxation for ST/SC), and NET (UGC or CSIR) or a similar UGC-accredited test such as SLET/SET, or a Ph.D. awarded in accordance with the UGC Ph.D. Regulations of 2009, 2016 or 2022. Candidates registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 are exempt from NET/SLET/SET on the conditions listed in the advertisement.
  • Option B: a Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 (at any time) in the QS, THE or ARWU (Shanghai) World University Rankings.

Associate Professor:

  • A good academic record with a Ph.D. in the concerned/allied/relevant domain subject.
  • A Master's degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade (5% relaxation for ST/SC).
  • At least eight years of teaching and/or research experience in a post equivalent to Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry, with at least seven publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 75 as per Appendix II, Table 2 of the UGC Regulations 2018.

Applications open on 9 October 2026 at 12:00 AM and close on 8 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. The advertisements direct candidates to apply through the University website, https://www.nlumeg.ac.in/, whose Recruitment link opens the University's online recruitment portal (nlumegrec.samarth.edu.in). Read the advertisement and general instructions on the portal before registering.

In-service candidates should apply through proper channel (they may submit an advance copy), or produce a No Objection Certificate from their present employer at the personal interview if shortlisted.

Selection and other terms

  • Only candidates found suitable for shortlisting will be informed of the interview venue and time through the email ID given in the application.
  • Meeting the eligibility criteria does not by itself entitle a candidate to be shortlisted or called for interview.
  • No TA/DA is admissible for attending the interview or any stage of selection.
  • Pay protection applies only to candidates serving in Government institutions whose application is routed through proper channel.
  • The University may cancel, withdraw, modify or amend the advertisements at any stage. Check the University website for any corrigendum or addendum.
  • Canvassing in any form is prohibited.
