About the University of Kerala and its Department of Law

The University of Kerala, headquartered at Thiruvananthapuram, is one of the oldest universities in India and runs sixteen faculties with forty-three departments of teaching and research. Its Department of Law sits under the Faculty of Law, whose Dean is Dr. Sindhu Thulaseedharan.

The Department of Law was established in 1988 at the Kariavattom campus in Thiruvananthapuram and is engaged in postgraduate teaching and research. The Department reports a consistent record of students passing with distinction or first class, around 40% of its students qualifying the UGC National Eligibility Test, and half of the law teachers recruited in Kerala after 2005 having come from the Department. It also runs extension work through the permanently established Kerala University Legal Services Clinic, legal literacy camps, training programmes, seminars and workshops.
