Assistant Professor (Contractual) at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law, RTM Nagpur University (11 Law Posts, Rs 40,000/month)

Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is a state university established in 1923 and headquartered at the Jamnalal Bajaj Administrative Building on the Mahatma Jotiba Phule Educational Premises in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Alongside its post-graduate teaching departments and centres of specialised studies, the University directly runs a small set of conducted colleges and schools. One of them is the University's Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law, which is where the law teaching posts in this advertisement sit.

By Advertisement No. RTMNU/GA/657 dated 24 July 2026, the University has invited online applications for 139 temporary posts of Assistant Professor on a contractual basis, across its post-graduate teaching departments, conducted colleges, schools, institutes and centres of specialised studies, for the academic session 2026-2027.

Thirteen of those 139 posts are at the University's Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law. Eleven of the thirteen are law-subject posts and are the ones a law-qualified candidate should be looking at. The remaining two School of Law posts are in Political Science and English, which are taught as ancillary subjects on the law programmes and call for a Master's degree in those subjects instead.

The other two posts at the School of Law, one in Political Science and one in English, are listed in the same table of the advertisement but are not law-qualified seats.

The appointment carries a consolidated salary of Rs 40,000 per month. It is purely contractual and runs strictly from the date of joining to 30 April 2027. The advertisement states plainly that a person selected has no enforceable right against the University for continuation in the succeeding academic session in any circumstances.

A selected candidate may avail only eight casual leaves during the academic session. No other leave and no allowances are permitted. No TA or DA is paid for attending the interview.

For the Law discipline (as for Commerce, Humanities, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences, Languages, Library Science, Physical Education and Mass Communication), the essential qualification is a Master's degree with 55% marks, or an equivalent grade on a point scale, in the concerned, relevant or allied subject from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.

In addition, the candidate must have cleared NET conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar UGC-accredited test such as SET, or must hold a Ph.D. degree in the concerned or relevant subject awarded in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2009 or 2016 and their amendments, in which case the NET/SET requirement is exempted. Candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme before 11 July 2009 are governed by the then existing Ordinances and are exempt from NET/SET subject to the five conditions set out in the advertisement, certified by the Registrar, Dean (Academic Affairs) or Director, BoEE of the awarding university.

Alternatively, a Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university or institution ranked among the top 500 in the World University Rankings by QS, Times Higher Education or ARWU (Shanghai) at any time qualifies.

A relaxation of 5% at both Bachelor's and Master's level is allowed for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and differently-abled candidates, and a further 5% relaxation is provided to Ph.D. holders who obtained their Master's degree before 19 September 1991. The upper age limit for all posts is 59 years as on the last date of application. Proficiency in Marathi is desirable. All qualifications and eligibility conditions must be fulfilled as on the last date of application.

Reservation follows the Higher and Technical Education Department's Government Resolution No. Sankirn-2019/Pra.Kra.94/19/Vishi-1 dated 11 April 2022 and the Government Notification dated 7 April 2022. Across the 139 contractual posts the category-wise break-up is SC 18, ST 10, VJ(A) 4, NT(B) 3, NT(C) 5, NT(D) 3, SBC 3, OBC 26, SEBC 14, EWS 14 and Open 39. Within these, 41 posts fall under the 30% women's reservation and 6 under the sports quota.

Six posts (4%) are reserved for persons with disabilities, distributed as 2 for blindness/myopia, 2 for deafness or hearing impairment, 1 for the locomotor group, and 1 for autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability or mental illness, or a person with multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness. One post out of the total advertised is reserved for an orphan person.

Only candidates belonging to reserved categories specified by the State Government of Maharashtra are considered against reserved posts. Reserved category candidates domiciled outside Maharashtra are treated as Open category candidates. Caste certificate, caste validity certificate and non-creamy layer certificate must be uploaded wherever applicable.

Applications are accepted only online. Visit the University's Advertisement/Employment Notice section at www.nagpuruniversity.ac.in and register on the recruitment portal at rtmnuoarec.samarth.edu.in. Fill in all the required information and upload the photograph, signature, payment receipt and the documents listed in the form. Pay the fee of Rs 500 (Open category) or Rs 300 (reserved category) through the payment gateway, submit the completed form, and take a printout of the submitted form.

A separate application must be submitted for each post. Where the candidate's university follows a grading system, a certificate from the competent authority converting the grade into a percentage must be obtained. After scrutiny of applications, a list of eligible candidates will be displayed on the University website. The advertisement does not fix an interview date and asks candidates to check the website regularly for further details. Eligible candidates must appear for the interview as scheduled, carrying all original documents along with three copies of the submitted application and three sets of self-attested documents.

Selection is made on the basis of the candidate's previous record and performance at the interview. The University may also use a seminar, colloquium or any other mode as a method of selection. Canvassing in any form during the selection process entails disqualification. The University reserves the right to fill or not fill any post and to modify, alter or cancel the advertisement, and all disputes arising out of it are subject to Nagpur jurisdiction.
