Assistant Professor in Law at Government-Aided Degree Colleges of Uttar Pradesh, UPESSC Advt. 04/2026 (61 Law Posts, Pay Level 10)

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj has issued Advertisement No. 04/2026 inviting online applications from Indian citizens for the post of Assistant Professor (Sahayak Acharya) in the state's government-aided (ashaskiya anudanit) co-education and women's degree colleges. The advertisement covers 1,936 posts across 42 subjects, of which 1,564 are in co-education colleges and 372 in women's colleges. Colleges are allotted to selected candidates by the Director of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj.

Law (Vidhi) carries 61 posts, all in co-education colleges. The category-wise break-up in Table 01 of the advertisement is:

• General: 22
• Scheduled Caste: 15
• Scheduled Tribe: 1
• Other Backward Classes: 14
• EWS: 9

Horizontal reservation within these posts: women 12, persons with disabilities 2, and dependants of freedom fighters 1. The Commission notes that the number of vacancies may go up or down.

Candidates must meet either route (A) or route (B):

• Route A: a Master's degree in Law with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade on a point scale) from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university, and UGC/CSIR NET or a UGC-accredited SLET/SET. Candidates awarded a Ph.D. under the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 are exempt from NET/SLET/SET. Pre-11 July 2009 Ph.D. holders are exempt only if the conditions listed in the advertisement are met (regular mode, two external examiners, open viva, two papers published with one in a refereed journal, and two conference presentations), certified by the Registrar or Dean.
• Route B: a Ph.D. in the subject from a foreign university or institution ranked in the world's top 500 at any time by QS, Times Higher Education or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai).

• A 5% relaxation in the 55% requirement at graduation and postgraduate level is allowed for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and specified categories of persons with disabilities.
• Ph.D. holders who completed their Master's degree before 19 September 1991 get a 5% relaxation (55% to 50%).
• For Law, the advertisement lists no allied or equivalent subject.
• Candidates must hold all essential qualifications by the last date of application.

• Age: age is counted as on 1 July 2026, and applicants above 62 years on that date will not be accepted (62 is the superannuation age for the post).
• Pay: Pay Level 10, Rs 57,700 - Rs 1,82,400.
• Reservation: reserved-category benefits are available only to candidates who are domiciled in Uttar Pradesh. Reserved-category candidates from other states are treated as General. Caste, EWS, freedom-fighter-dependant and disability certificates must be in the Uttar Pradesh government formats annexed to the advertisement.
• Candidates already in service must produce a no-objection certificate from their employer at the interview if the Commission asks for it.

• Selection is on a merit list built from a 360-mark written examination and a 40-mark interview.
• The written examination has 120 multiple-choice questions: 30 on general knowledge and 90 on the subject (Law). It lasts two hours.
• Each correct answer earns 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong or multiple answer.
• Questions are printed in both Hindi and English.
• Candidates shortlisted on written-exam marks are called for interview with at least 10 days' notice by SMS, email, newspaper and the Commission's website.
• The Law syllabus (Subject Code 64) covers ten units: constitutional law, administrative law, jurisprudence, general principles of criminal law, international law, personal (family) law, torts, contract, Lok Adalat and the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and environmental law.
• No travel allowance is paid for the written exam or interview.

• General / Unreserved / OBC / EWS and others: Rs 2,000
• SC / ST: Rs 1,500
• Persons with disabilities: Rs 1,000

The fee is paid online by credit card, debit card or net banking through the payment gateway on the portal. A fee paid on a defective application is not refunded or adjusted.

• Applications are accepted only online through the One Time Registration (OTR) based system. Complete OTR first on the UPESSC candidate portal (apply.upessc.org), then fill in the Assistant Professor application.
• Fill in the registration and application form in English.
• Upload a signature on a white background (JPG/JPEG, 10-200 KB) and a passport-size photo (JPG/JPEG, 30-300 KB). Certificates must be PDFs of 50-500 KB.
• Category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after final submission. If more than one application is submitted, only the last one is accepted.
• Keep three printouts of the submitted form. Two sets go to the Commission with self-attested documents at the interview.
• The last date for online application and fee payment is 7 October 2026. Corrections can be made until 11 October 2026.
