Assistant Professor of Law (Contractual) at Sikkim National Law University, Gangtok (5 Posts)

Sikkim National Law University (SNLU), Gangtok, has issued Advertisement No. 001/SNLU/Recruitment/2026 dated 09.10.2026 inviting applications for engagement as Assistant Professor of Law. There are 05 posts and the nature of appointment is contractual. The advertisement states that all the posts (contractual) are full-time appointees of the University. Reservation of posts follows the Government of Sikkim Reservation Policy.

• The minimum qualifications prescribed under the applicable UGC Regulations, as amended from time to time, and the Sikkim National Law University Act, rules and regulations.
• A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned, relevant or allied subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• In addition, NET conducted by the UGC or a similar UGC-accredited test such as SLET/SET; candidates awarded a Ph.D. in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 are exempted from NET/SLET/SET.
• Or a Ph.D. from a foreign university or institution ranked among the top 500 at any time by QS, Times Higher Education or ARWU (Shanghai).
• Relaxation in qualifications, experience and age for reserved categories is as per Government of Sikkim rules. SC/ST and PWD/PC candidates must submit the prescribed certificates.

• Publications in high-quality academic journals.
• Demonstrated academic excellence in university education.
• Evidence of the skills needed for higher education teaching and a research record commensurate with career stage.
• Commitment to the University's goals and objectives.

• Teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses (B.A.LL.B. (Honours) and LL.M.).
• Design and deliver lectures and classes, produce lecture notes, course materials and reading lists, and set and grade assignments and exams.
• Design and deliver classes in the University's Professional and Continuing Education department.
• Hold consultations with students, liaise with other faculty, take an appropriate share of administrative duties including committee service, and participate in the governance and academic life of the University.

The advertisement does not state a figure. It says salaries for the respective posts are to be fixed by the University Authorities, keeping in mind the UGC guidelines.

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview, which will be held on the University campus. The University may restrict the number of candidates called on the basis of qualifications or experience higher than the minimum. Original documents must be produced for verification at the interview, and no TA/DA will be paid. The University reserves the right to consider candidates applying from abroad or from the PC category for a Skype interview, to draw a panel for future appointments, and not to fill any advertised position. The University also reserves the right to consider applications received after the last date, but eligibility is determined as on the last date for submission of applications.
