Assistant Public Prosecutor at Directorate of Prosecution, Govt. of NCT of Delhi (140 Vacancies, Level-10) and Law Officer, UT of Ladakh (4 Vacancies) via UPSC

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued Advertisement No. 11/2026, inviting online recruitment applications for direct recruitment by selection to 212 vacancies across seven posts. Two of these are law posts:

• 140 vacancies of Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Directorate of Prosecution, Home Department, Government of NCT of Delhi (Vacancy No. 26091106212)
• 4 vacancies of Public Law Officer / District Litigation Officer / Law Officer in the Law and Justice Department, Administration of UT of Ladakh (Vacancy No. 26091107212)

The other posts in the same advertisement are medical specialist posts and an Assistant Editor post in the Indian Bureau of Mines; they are not law posts.

• Reservation: UR-50, EWS-14, OBC-37, SC-30, ST-09; 8 of the 140 vacancies are reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD)
• Pay: Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC
• Essential qualifications: degree in law from a recognised university or institute, and three years' experience at the bar
• Desirable qualification: experience as a government advocate
• Age limit: 35 years for UR/EWS, 38 for OBC, 40 for SC/ST, relaxable up to 10 years for PwBD. Contractual employees of the department get a one-time upper age relaxation of up to 5 years on the conditions set out in the advertisement.
• Duties: conducting cases in the courts of Metropolitan Magistrates on behalf of the Government of NCT of Delhi, advising the police in criminal cases, and maintaining records and statistics of criminal cases pending before the Metropolitan Magistrates
• Service: permanent, General Central Service Group 'A' Gazetted, Non-Ministerial; probation of two years with mandatory induction training of at least two weeks
• Headquarters: National Capital Territory of Delhi

By a notice dated 15 September 2026, UPSC clarified that OBC reservation for the Assistant Public Prosecutor posts is given only to candidates who submit OBC certificates issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi and whose caste is notified in the Delhi OBC list. Candidates who submit OBC certificates issued by other States or UTs will be treated as UR candidates against UR vacancies. Delhi OBC candidates who cannot find the serial number of their caste in the Central List while filling the Common Application Form may enter "0" or "NA" in that field.

• Reservation: all four vacancies are for ST candidates; one is reserved for PwBD
• Domicile: the recruitment is exclusively for domiciles of the UT of Ladakh holding a valid domicile certificate issued by the Tehsildar in the Administration of UT of Ladakh
• Pay: Level-8 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC
• Essential qualification: bachelor's degree in law (professional or integrated) from a university established by law in India, with two years' actual practice at the bar certified by the Principal District and Sessions Judge concerned or the Registrar General of the High Court concerned or the Supreme Court
• Age limit: 40 years for ST, relaxable up to 10 years for PwBD
• Duties: legal opinions, vetting draft notifications, rules and regulations for all departments of the UT, drafting and vetting replies for departments, and possibly the duties of District Litigation Officer for Leh and Kargil
• Service: permanent, General Central Service Group 'B' Gazetted, Non-Ministerial; probation of two years
• Closing date: 9 October 2026

Selection is by interview, and where applications are numerous UPSC may shortlist candidates by desirable qualifications, higher qualifications or experience, or by holding a Recruitment Test. The minimum level of suitability in the interview is 50 marks for UR, 45 for OBC and 40 for SC/ST/PH candidates, out of 100. Recruitment Tests, if held, are ordinarily conducted at Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi and Visakhapatnam; for the Ladakh posts the centres are Leh, Kargil, Srinagar and Delhi.

Rs 25, payable online by Visa/Master/RuPay credit or debit card, UPI or internet banking. No fee for women candidates of any community, or for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. OBC, EWS and unreserved male candidates must pay the full fee. Fee once paid is not refunded.

• Apply online only, on the UPSC Online Application Portal at upsconline.nic.in. The portal has four modules: account creation, Universal Registration (URN), Common Application Form (CAF) and the post-specific module.
• Upload PDF documents in support of every claim: date of birth (Class 10 certificate), law degree, bar experience certificate in the prescribed proforma, caste, PwBD and age-relaxation certificates as applicable. Proformas are on the UPSC Forms of Certificates page.
• Keep a printout of the submitted application; it must be produced at interview with original documents.
• Applications cannot be withdrawn or edited after submission.
• Closing date: 6:00 PM on 2 October 2026 for the Delhi Assistant Public Prosecutor posts; 9 October 2026 for the Ladakh Law Officer posts.

Candidates must be citizens of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from the specified countries, in the last cases with a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
