Assistant Public Prosecutor Recruitment at Odisha Public Service Commission, Cuttack (172 Posts, Pay Rs 44,900 in Level 10)

The Odisha Public Service Commission has issued Advertisement No. 09 of 2026-27 (Notice No. 4696/PSC dated 20 August 2026) inviting online applications for 172 posts of Assistant Public Prosecutor in Group-B of the Odisha State Prosecution Service under the Home Department, Government of Odisha. The Commission conducts recruitment to the state civil services and to specialist cadres such as the prosecution service, and this is a direct-recruitment drive to a permanent Group-B post.

Of the 172 vacancies, 58 are earmarked for women. The online application window runs from 28 August 2026 to 28 September 2026 (5.00 P.M.), and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for 1 November 2026.

Assistant Public Prosecutor in Group-B of the Odisha State Prosecution Service under the Home Department, in the scale of pay of Rs 44,900 in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix under the ORSP Rules, 2017, with usual Dearness Allowance and other allowances as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time.

• Un-reserved (UR): 86 posts, of which 29 are for women
• Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC): 23 posts, of which 8 are for women
• Scheduled Caste (SC): 27 posts, of which 9 are for women
• Scheduled Tribe (ST): 36 posts, of which 12 are for women
• Grand total: 172 posts, of which 58 are for women

Within the total of 172, eight posts are reserved for Persons with Disabilities whose permanent disability is 40 per cent or more, nine posts for Ex-Servicemen and further posts for Sportspersons. Candidates in the PwD, Ex-Servicemen and Sportspersons categories are adjusted against the categories to which they belong.

• Educational qualification: a Bachelor's Degree in Law from a recognised University.
• Experience: at least two years of experience as a practising Advocate.
• Age: not less than 21 years and not more than 42 years as on 1 January 2026, that is, born not earlier than 2 January 1984 and not later than 1 January 2005.

Candidates other than those in the SC, ST and PwD categories must pay an examination fee of Rs 700 through online mode while filling up the Online Application Form. SC, ST and PwD candidates are exempt.

Applications without payment of the examination fee, except from SC, ST and PwD candidates, will be treated as incomplete and rejected outright. The fee is refunded only to candidates who actually appear in the Preliminary Examination; refunds are processed after the Preliminary Examination to the original mode of payment used, such as credit card, debit card, UPI or wallet.

The recruitment is in two stages, carrying a total of 650 marks at the Main stage.

• Preliminary Examination (objective type): 100 marks. It is a screening stage.
• Main Examination: Written Examination (subjective and descriptive answer type) of 600 marks, and Interview of 50 marks, together 650 marks.

The plan of examination, scheme, subjects and syllabus for the Preliminary and Main (Written) Examinations are set out in the long advertisement. The Preliminary Examination will be held on 1 November 2026 (Sunday); the detailed schedule and centres will be notified in due course.

Applications are accepted only online through the proforma application made available on the Commission's website. The link for online application and submission will be live from 28 August 2026 to 28 September 2026 (5.00 P.M.), with 28 September 2026 as the last date for submission of the registered online application.

Applications received through any other mode will not be accepted and will be summarily rejected. Candidates should read the long advertisement on the OPSC website before registering, and pay the examination fee online during the same session.

The advertisement lists the certificates and documents to be uploaded, including proof of identity such as Aadhaar, EPIC, driving licence, passport or PAN card, a No Objection Certificate from the competent authority or head of office where applicable, a Sports Identity Card or certificate issued by the Director of Sports, Odisha for sportspersons, and, for Third Gender or Transgender candidates, the identity certificate issued by the competent authority along with any document supporting a change of name.

Experience as a practising Advocate must be certified in the format at Annexure-B of the advertisement by the concerned District and Sessions Judge, stating the candidate's Bar Council of Odisha registration number and the date from which active practice began.

Candidates who qualify in the Main Written Examination must bring the hard copy of the online application form together with the originals and one set of copies of the above certificates for verification on a date to be notified. Each copy must carry the endorsement "Submitted by me and Certified as genuine and has not been cancelled" with the candidate's full signature and date. Original certificates must not be attached to the application.
