About the Recruitment

Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (MNLU Mumbai), established on 27 June 2014 by the Government of Maharashtra under Maharashtra Act VI of 2014, invites applications for teaching and non-teaching positions. The recruitment advertisement was published in the Times of India and Maharashtra Times (Marathi) on 24 July 2026.

The two teaching positions are offered on a Self-Finance Regular Scale basis. This listing focuses on the law-faculty vacancies; the same notification also advertises several non-teaching posts (see below).

Associate Professor (Law) - Eligibility

Essential qualifications:

  • Good academic record with a Ph.D. in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline.
  • A Master's degree in Law with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from a recognised Indian or equivalent foreign university.
  • A minimum of eight years' teaching and/or research experience equivalent to Assistant Professor in a University, College or accredited research institution/industry, with at least seven publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 75 as per Appendix II, Table 2 of UGC Regulations, 2018.
  • Minimum API/PBAS score as stipulated by UGC.

Desirable specialisation (either track): (a) Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate and Commercial Law - corporate restructuring, securities regulation, competition law in M&A, due diligence, cross-border M&A and FDI; OR (b) Data Privacy Law, IT Law and the legal/ethical aspects of Artificial Intelligence - data protection frameworks (GDPR, DPDP Act), AI governance and ethics, technology law and digital rights, surveillance and digital privacy.

Assistant Professor (Maritime Law) - Eligibility

Essential qualifications:

  • A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in a relevant subject from an Indian or accredited foreign university.
  • Must have cleared NET (UGC/CSIR) or an accredited equivalent (SLET/SET), OR hold a Ph.D. awarded per UGC (M.Phil./Ph.D.) Regulations 2009/2016 (candidates registered before 11 July 2009 are governed by the then-existing rules and are exempt from NET/SET subject to specified conditions).
  • A Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 (QS / THE / ARWU-Shanghai) also qualifies.

Desirable specialisation: Maritime Law expertise - Law of the Sea and UNCLOS, Admiralty and shipping law, marine environmental and coastal regulation, maritime safety/security and port regulation, carriage of goods by sea and marine insurance, IMO conventions and the Merchant Shipping Act.

Non-Teaching Posts - Brief Eligibility

  • Assistant Registrar: Master's (55%) + minimum 3 years' supervisory administrative experience in the pay band Rs. 9300-34800 (GP Rs. 4400) or Level S-15 and above; LL.B./MBA/PG Diploma in HR or Public Administration desirable; age up to 45 years.
  • Hostel Superintendent: Essential - Bachelor's Degree from a recognised University + minimum 5 years' experience in university hostel/residential/defence/government-hostel or student-affairs administration. Desirable - Master's Degree and a Degree/Diploma in Hotel/Hospitality/Public Administration or Social Work. Age up to 40 years.
  • Accountant: M.Com or relevant discipline + minimum 12 years' experience in accounts, finance and taxation, with Tally knowledge and work experience; Diploma in Taxation desirable; age up to 45 years; consolidated salary Rs. 40,000-50,000 pm.
  • Administrative Assistant: Graduate (Arts/Science/Commerce); English and Marathi typing 30 WPM and 1-3 years' experience desirable; age 18-35 years; consolidated salary Rs. 25,000-35,000 pm.
  • Library Assistant: Bachelor's in Library & Information Science + typing 30 WPM (English) and knowledge of Koha/library automation; age 18-35 years; consolidated salary Rs. 25,000-35,000 pm.

Application Fee

The application fee is Rs. 500 for General category candidates and Rs. 250 for Reserved category candidates, payable through online mode. The fee is non-refundable.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the prescribed format available on the University website (mnlumumbai.edu.in) from 24 July 2026, by 08 August 2026 (23:59 hrs). The scanned application and supporting documents should also be emailed to recruitment2025@mnlumumbai.edu.in.

A printout of the online application, along with the payment receipt (UTR number) and self-attested copies of all supporting documents, must reach the Registrar in a sealed envelope (in person or by post) by 5:00 pm on 11 August 2026. The envelope must be superscribed "Application for the post of <name of the post>".

Candidates are also required to fill in the details on the Google link provided in the notification and submit a printout of the same along with the application form. This is a compulsory submission step.

Candidates already in employment must submit their application through the proper channel or furnish a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current employer; without it the application/candidature will not be considered (Clause 14).

Documents to enclose: educational qualification certificates and mark statements (both sides), experience certificates from competent authorities, approval letter/NOC for teachers appointed in affiliated colleges or recognised institutions, birth/SSC proof, caste and caste-validity certificates for reserved-category applicants, and the declaration of small family in the prescribed proforma (Declaration Form 'A') as required under GAD Notification No. SRV.2000/CR(17/2000) XII dated 28 March 2005.

At the interview, candidates must bring original documents for verification along with two sets of photocopies of all documents, and must remain present at their own expense. Canvassing directly or indirectly will lead to disqualification.
