About the Competition

Saveetha School of Law, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Chennai is organising a Bail Application Drafting Competition as part of Law Fest 2026. The competition is conducted entirely online on 17 September 2026.

Per the official rulebook, the competition aims to enhance legal drafting and analytical skills among law students, encourage a practical understanding of criminal procedure and bail jurisprudence, and promote research, legal reasoning and professional drafting standards.

Eligibility and Participation

The competition is open to students pursuing:

  • the 3-Year LL.B. Course, or
  • the 5-Year Integrated Law Course

from any recognised law college or university. Participation is individual only; team entries are not permitted.

Competition Format

A factual criminal law proposition is released to all registered participants on the day of the competition. Participants must draft either a Regular Bail Application or an Anticipatory Bail Application, as specified in the proposition.

The draft must include:

  • Cause title
  • Relevant provisions of law
  • Facts of the case
  • Grounds for bail
  • Prayer clause
  • Verification, if applicable

The maximum length is 5 pages excluding the cover page. The document must not carry any mark of identification other than the participant's registration details where instructed. Late submissions are not accepted under any circumstances.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions must be made in PDF format only.
  • File name format: ParticipantName_CollegeName.pdf
  • The draft must be typed in English only.
  • Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
  • Proper margins and formatting must be maintained.

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions are evaluated out of 100 marks on the following parameters:

  • Knowledge of Law and Relevant Provisions – 25 marks
  • Legal Reasoning and Arguments – 25 marks
  • Drafting Skills and Structure – 20 marks
  • Clarity, Language and Professionalism – 15 marks
  • Originality and Research – 15 marks

Submissions are evaluated by legal academicians, advocates or subject experts. The decision of the judges and the organising committee is final and binding.

Registration Fee and How to Register

The registration fee is Rs 300 per participant and is non-refundable once paid. The last date to register is 15 September 2026.

The rulebook sets out this order of steps:

  • Complete the payment using the account details or the QR code in the rulebook. Account holder: Saveetha School of Law CME, Karur Vysya Bank, Account No. 1248135000002593, IFSC KVBL0001248, Branch: Saveetha Dental College, Velapanchavadi.
  • After successful payment, fill the official registration Google Form with accurate details, including the transaction ID and proof of payment.
  • Join the official WhatsApp group linked in the form. The organisers state that all further updates, instructions and communication will be shared only through WhatsApp.

Registration is treated as complete only after confirmation by the organising committee.

Plagiarism Policy and Rules of Conduct

Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited. The organisers discourage the use of AI-generated content without proper modification and understanding. Any submission found copied from online sources, books or other participants leads to immediate disqualification, and the organising committee's decision on plagiarism is final.

Participants must maintain professionalism and academic integrity throughout. Any attempt to contact the judges regarding evaluation results in disqualification, and misconduct, unfair means or violation of the rules may lead to cancellation of participation.

Certificates and Other Information

E-certificates are issued to all participants who submit valid entries, and to winners and merit holders. Certificates are sent to the registered email address.

Participants are advised to keep a copy of their submission. The organising committee is not responsible for technical or server issues during submission, and participants must adhere strictly to the timeline. The organisers reserve the right to amend the rules, change the schedule, or cancel or modify the competition if necessary due to unavoidable circumstances.
