About Virtuosity Legal

Established in February 2025, Virtuosity Legal is a peer-reviewed academic blog run entirely by law students at the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University. It functions independently of the faculty and the university administration, maintaining its own editorial autonomy. Its stated aim is to bring clarity, authenticity, and depth to the study and practice of law through writing that is informative, reformative, and thought-provoking. The platform carries the tagline Substance. Authority. Insight. and publishes on a monthly cycle.

Prof. (Dr.) Khalid Shamim serves as patron, and the blog was co-founded by Mahvish Fatima and Tanzeel Islam Khan, supported by a broader team handling research, operations, media, and outreach.

The theme and sub-themes

The central theme for this call is Birthright Citizenship at the Intersection of Constitutional Identity and Sovereign Authority. You may write on the theme broadly or focus on any of the following sub-themes:

  • Eroding constitutional guarantees: the shift from jus soli to conditional belonging
  • The machinery of exclusion: verification, documentation, and the burden of proving belonging
  • Weaponisation and denationalisation
  • International law and sovereign defiance
  • Re-imagining the citizenship framework

Beyond this themed call, Virtuosity Legal regularly publishes on Constitution, Criminal Law, Intellectual Property Rights, International Law, Law and Technology, Case Comments, Jurisprudence, and Commercial Laws, with other analytical pieces also considered.

Who can apply

The call is open to law students, scholars, researchers, professors, legal professionals, and subject experts. Key eligibility points:

  • A submission may have a maximum of 4 authors.
  • The work must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.
  • For case comments, none of the authors may have represented either party in the litigation being discussed.

Requirements: formatting and word limit

Prepare your manuscript exactly to these specifications:

  • Word count: ideally between 1,200 and 2,500 words.

  • File format: .doc or .docx only, with the file named after the article title.
  • Language: clear, concise English.
  • Abstract: 150 to 200 words included in the article.

Requirements: citations, originality, and AI policy

Submissions go through a double-blind peer review that evaluates substance, authority, and insight. Authors of selected articles are notified by email, typically within 3 to 5 working days.
