About the blog

The Centre for Research in Environmental Law (CREL), Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur, invites submissions for its blog series on a rolling basis. The blog seeks to promote critical discourse on contemporary issues in environmental law, policy and allied fields. Selected pieces will be published on the CREL website, crel.mpdnlu.ac.in. The website is currently under maintenance and will be available by the end of November 2026.

Who can submit

Submissions are open to students, academicians, legal practitioners, researchers and policymakers. All submissions must be analytical, and not merely descriptive, in nature.

Categories of submission

  • Long-form Articles: analysing a legal issue, trend or debate in environmental law and policy.
  • Case Comments: on recent decisions of the Supreme Court, the High Courts or the National Green Tribunal.
  • Legislative and Policy Comments: on new legislation, rules, draft notifications and policy documents.
  • Book Reviews: critically reviewing books on environmental law and policy.

Submission guidelines

  • Word limit: between 800 and 1,500 words. Requests for relaxation of the limit may be made by email and are considered at the Centre's discretion.
  • Co-authorship of up to two authors is permitted.
  • The abstract must not exceed 50 words. The abstract and author details go only in the cover letter that accompanies the submission email, and not in the manuscript.
  • Author details: name, institutional affiliation, year of study or designation, contact details, a bio not exceeding 50 words, and a link to the LinkedIn profile (if any).
  • Images, graphs and tables may be used where necessary. Authors are encouraged to rely on case studies, empirical data and policy analysis.

Formatting and citation

  • Text: Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5, with paragraph spacing of 6 pt above and below.
  • Title: bold and underlined, in sentence case (not in all caps or small caps), and not exceeding 10 words.
  • Headings: Heading 2 in bold; Heading 3 underlined.
  • Layout: margins of one inch on all sides. No borders are permitted.
  • Citation: all legal and supporting materials must be referenced through hyperlinks embedded in the body of the text. Footnotes and endnotes are not accepted. Authors are advised to link to primary sources, such as judgments, statutes, notifications and official reports, wherever available.

How to submit

The manuscript must be in .doc or .docx format and titled "Title_CREL Blog". The manuscript and its metadata must not disclose the name or institutional affiliation of the author(s). Email the submission to crel@mpdnlu.ac.in with the subject line "Submission for CREL Blog Series", and include the abstract and author details in the cover letter accompanying the email.

Before you submit, check: 800 to 1,500 words; file named "Title_CREL Blog"; title within 10 words; cover letter with abstract; hyperlinked sources; author details and 50-word bio; anonymised manuscript; correct subject line.

Review process

Receipt of the manuscript and cover letter is confirmed by email. The submission then goes through an anonymised editorial review, and the decision is communicated within two weeks. Before publication, manuscripts may be returned to the author(s) with suggestions on substance or style, and the author(s) are expected to cooperate with editorial changes.

Originality, plagiarism and copyright

Submissions must be the original and unpublished work of the author(s) and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere during the review process. All submissions are screened using plagiarism and AI-detection software. The similarity index must not exceed 10%, and AI-generated content must not exceed 15%. Submissions exceeding either limit are summarily rejected.

The author(s) are solely responsible for the accuracy of the facts, opinions and views expressed. Offensive, abusive or potentially defamatory content is not considered. Upon publication, all literary rights in the submission vest in CREL, DNLU Jabalpur. CREL reserves the sole right to decide on publication, and adherence to all guidelines is mandatory.
