About the Centre and the Blog

The Centre for Advanced Studies in Labour Welfare (CASLW) at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, was set up to strengthen the labour justice system in India and to advance the welfare, rights and dignity of workers and their families. It carries out research, academic engagement and awareness work on labour welfare, with attention to workers in both the organised and unorganised sectors.

Labour & Liberty is the Centre's own publication platform. It aims to encourage informed discussion on emerging questions of labour and employment law and their social, economic and regulatory dimensions. The Blog prefers analytical pieces that critically engage with new legislation, judicial decisions, regulatory policy and the changing nature of work, rather than pieces that only describe the law.

Theme

Submissions are invited broadly in Labour Law, Employment Law and Service Law. Authors may also take up connected and interdisciplinary questions, including:

  • Labour Codes and industrial relations
  • Wages, working conditions and social security
  • Gig, platform and informal-sector workers
  • Workplace equality, discrimination and gender justice
  • Migrant and contract labour
  • Occupational safety and worker welfare
  • Artificial intelligence, automation and the future of work
  • Employee privacy and workplace surveillance
  • Trade unions and collective bargaining
  • Child and bonded labour
  • Labour-law compliance and enforcement
  • Comparative and international labour law
  • Contemporary judicial and regulatory developments affecting employment and workers' rights

The list is illustrative, not exhaustive. Any piece within the broader field of labour, employment, service law or labour welfare is welcome. The title of the manuscript should indicate the sub-theme chosen.

Who Can Submit

The call is open to students, academicians, legal practitioners, researchers, HR professionals and anyone else interested in labour and employment law. Co-authorship is allowed up to a maximum of two authors, who may be from the same or different institutions.

Word Limit and Formatting

  • Length: the brochure sets the word limit at 1,200 to 1,500 words, with flexibility up to 1,800 words depending on the quality of the piece. (A later page of the same brochure gives a preferred range of 1,000 to 1,500 words and allows up to 1,900 words where the subject needs it, so staying within 1,200 to 1,500 is the safe course.)
  • Body text: Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing, justified.
  • References: sources available online should be cited through in-text hyperlinks. Where a source is not online, endnotes may be used in Times New Roman, font size 10, single spacing, following OSCOLA 4th Edition.
  • File: .doc or .docx, with the filename containing only the title of the submission.

Submission Guidelines

  • The manuscript must be original and unpublished. Plagiarised submissions will be rejected, and cross-publication is not allowed.
  • The manuscript must not carry the name, institutional affiliation or any other identifying detail of the author(s).
  • Pieces should preferably advance an argument or critical analysis rather than summarise existing law.
  • Authors are solely responsible for the legal and factual accuracy of their submissions.
  • Copyright in published pieces vests with CASLW-RGNUL, while moral rights remain with the author(s).

Fee

The brochure mentions no submission or publication fee.

How to Submit

Submissions must be made through the official Google Form (linked below). Before uploading, rename the document to the title of the post, without any personal detail of the author(s), and make sure the title reflects the sub-theme. The deadline is 22 October 2026, 11:59 pm. For queries, write to caslw@rgnul.ac.in.
