About RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review

RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review (RFMLR) is a bi-annual, student-run, double-blind peer-reviewed law journal published by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. First published in 2014, the journal gives legal academia, legal professionals and law students an opportunity to contribute cutting-edge doctrinal, theoretical and empirical research in the field of business and commercial law. RFMLR is indexed on SCC Online, HeinOnline and Manupatra, and has been ranked amongst the Top 10 Law Reviews in India by SCC Online consecutively in recent years. The Editorial Board also collaborates with legal experts on academic initiatives that promote study and research in business and commercial law.

About the RFMLR Blog

The Editorial Board of RFMLR operates the RFMLR Blog, which aims to provide a platform for the expression of novel ideas and the analysis of contemporary issues in business and commercial law. Alongside this open-theme call, the Board periodically releases theme-specific calls for blogs to advance the discourse on selected areas of commercial law. In 2024, RFMLR collaborated with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) on a Blog Series Competition followed by a panel discussion on 'Emerging Trends and Developments in Competition Law Regime'. Earlier theme-specific series have invited blogs on Intellectual Property Rights, Digital Commerce and Fintech Law, Corporate Governance, Competition Law, Telecom Law and Aviation Law.

Who can submit

The Editorial Board invites blog submissions from legal practitioners, advisors, academicians and law students. Co-authorship is limited to a maximum of two authors, and manuscripts must be in the English language only.

Submission guidelines

  • Submissions may be in the form of articles, opinions, case comments and short notes. Pieces analysing or critiquing existing academic research on a topic or issue are also welcome.
  • Submissions shall be lucid, contemporarily relevant and well-researched, and shall contain a novel analysis of the issue by the author(s). The Editorial Board encourages analytical submissions with concrete suggestions over descriptive submissions with generic suggestions.
  • Submissions shall not be less than 1,300 words and shall not exceed 1,600 words, exclusive of endnotes. Longer pieces can be divided into two or three-part posts for better readability, but each part must be complete in itself.
  • The name and institution of the author(s) shall not be mentioned in the body of the submission.
  • Authors shall refrain from referring to themselves in the first person, and while referring to case laws are encouraged to use the names of the parties rather than 'petitioners', 'appellants' or 'respondents'.
  • The title of the submission should not exceed 70 characters, excluding word spacing.

Formatting and citations

  • Submissions shall be typewritten in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and justified alignment.
  • Submissions shall contain hyperlinks in the body of the manuscript itself instead of footnotes and endnotes. Endnotes may be used where hyperlinks are not possible, or where the source is behind a paywall or offline, such as books and articles.
  • The latest edition of the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) shall be followed for citations.
  • Endnotes shall be typewritten in Times New Roman, font size 10, single-line spacing and justified alignment.

Plagiarism, copyright and exclusivity

  • Any form of plagiarism is strictly prohibited, and the submission shall be original, unpublished and an outcome of the author's own efforts. Manuscripts with a high AI similarity level shall be summarily rejected.
  • Author(s) shall divest the copyright of the manuscript to RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, once the manuscript has been selected for publication. All moral rights remain with the author(s).
  • Author(s) shall refrain from submitting the manuscript elsewhere during the pendency of the review process. Where the theme is contemporaneous and delayed publication would render the research irrelevant, the author(s) may request an expedited review.

How to apply

Submissions are made through the RFMLR Blog Submissions (2026-27) Google Form. The author(s) shall submit the manuscript in .doc or .docx format along with the duly signed Certificate of Originality and Copyright in the prescribed format. The form asks for the details of each author (name, designation or current year of study and course, institution and email address), the title of the submission, the area of law, optional LinkedIn profile URLs, and a 150-200 word description or caption for promotion of the piece on RFMLR's social media after publication. The caption must introduce the topic and set out the central argument precisely without being a mere summary, must not disclose the conclusion, and must not name the author, their designation or their college. There is no submission fee.

Review timeline and withdrawal

RFMLR undertakes a double-blind review for blog submissions, and all information submitted is kept strictly confidential and used only for the purposes of the RFMLR Blog. The Editorial Board strives to communicate its decision at the earliest, and ordinarily the author(s) will be apprised of the decision within a fortnight from the date of submission; authors are asked to refrain from sending follow-up emails before that period elapses. An author who wishes to withdraw a piece from consideration must email submissions_rfmlr@rgnul.ac.in with the subject line 'Withdrawal of Manuscript [Blog Code]', and the final decision rests at the sole discretion of the Editorial Board.
