The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), the Tokyo-based think tank of the Asian Development Bank, in partnership with the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM), Meiji University, the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) and the University of Tokyo, invites chapter papers for edited volumes on the role of water in advancing peace, reducing poverty and promoting sustainable prosperity.
The volumes aim to bring together scholars, policymakers, development practitioners and technical experts to examine how water can be both a source of challenge and an instrument for cooperation, prosperity and sustainable development.
The call is addressed to scholars, policymakers, development practitioners and technical experts, and states no nationality restriction. It welcomes research-based chapters, policy analyses, country and regional case studies, practitioner perspectives and lessons from development projects and programmes.
Authors of selected papers will be invited to present at a virtual conference hosted by ADBI in January 2027 (exact date not yet announced). The corresponding author presents the paper at the conference, where an external reviewer is present, and is also expected to serve as a discussant for another paper. Authors may be asked to revise their papers based on reviewer feedback. After peer review, accepted papers will be included as chapters in the planned edited volumes: Volume I, Water for Peace: Resolving Conflicts and Contributing Prosperity, and Volume II, Water for Poverty: Water Security and Pathways to Prosperity.
The official call does not mention any submission or participation fee.
Submit the full paper by 6 November 2026 through ADBI's online submission form. The form asks for the corresponding author's name, affiliation, position, institution and email, details of up to four co-authors, the paper title and abstract, and one attached file (PDF or Word only, 12 MB limit).
