Overview

The School of Law, DY Patil University, Navi Mumbai, in collaboration with the Asian Law Schools Association (ALSA) Law and Technology Chapter, invites submissions for the 2026 ALSA Law and Technology Conference, to be held from 11 to 13 December 2026 on the DY Patil University campus in Navi Mumbai.

The conference is built around the central theme "Technology Governance or Technology Government?", with a dedicated symposium asking "Addressing the IT to AI journey: is there an effective regulator?" It aims to bring together students, teachers, policymakers, and jurists for an interdisciplinary conversation on how law and technology shape one another.

About the organiser

The School of Law at DY Patil University, Navi Mumbai is part of a recognised deemed-to-be university. For this conference it partners with the Asian Law Schools Association (ALSA) Law and Technology Chapter, a regional network of law schools advancing scholarship across Asia.

Theme and sub-themes

The conference theme is "Technology Governance or Technology Government?" Suggested sub-themes include:

  • Constitutional law and the limits of state and corporate technology use
  • Environmental law and data centre sovereignty
  • Intellectual property law and egalitarian innovation
  • Criminal justice and access to justice, including feminist theories
  • Transport law, liability, and human-autonomy interaction
  • Procedural law and technological disruption
  • The Law of Technology versus the Technology of law
  • LLMs and intellectual property rights
  • AI training as a technical intervention or a contractual liability
  • Data privacy as an isolated law or a digital backbone
  • Device automation and developer versus deployer obligations

Who can submit

Submissions are open to participants globally, including students, academics, policymakers, and practitioners. Interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged.

Submission guidelines

There are three submission tracks:

  • Abstracts for Presentation: abstracts of up to 1,000 words, using OSCOLA citation style.
  • Papers for the Symposium: a first draft, followed by a full paper that must strictly follow the partnering journal's author guidelines.
  • Sideline Events: event proposals.

Publication

Selected full papers will be considered for publication in a special edition of Law, Technology and Humans (LTH), an international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal supported by the Humans Technology Law Centre at Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and indexed in Scopus, DOAJ, AustLII, and EBSCO.

Fees

Participation fees vary by track:

  • Attendees: Rs 2,500 (early bird) to Rs 3,500 (final)
  • Abstract presenters: Rs 4,000 (early bird) to Rs 5,500 (final)
  • Symposium papers: Rs 8,500 (early bird) to Rs 10,000 (final)
  • Sideline events: Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000

Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. Key dates from the organiser:

  • 1 July 2026: Abstracts for Presentation and first drafts for the Symposium due
  • 1 August 2026: Confirmation for abstracts and symposium drafts; Sideline Event proposals due
  • 1 September 2026: Confirmation for Sideline Events
  • 1 October 2026: Early-bird registration deadline
  • 15 November 2026: Final registration deadline
  • 11 to 13 December 2026: Conference
