Call for Papers: Baltic Yearbook of International Law, Vol. 25 (2026) - Private International Law and Arbitration

The Baltic Yearbook of International Law (BYIL) has been published since 2001 and reaches its 25th volume in 2026. Across its volumes it has carried scholarship from the region on a wide range of themes in international and European law, and it is a source of selected and organised information on the state practice of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on the major issues of international law.

The anniversary volume is edited in cooperation between the Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) and the publisher Brill/Nijhoff, under the general editorship of Professors Ineta Ziemele (Riga), Lauri Mälksoo (Tartu) and Dainius Žalimas (Kaunas). All contributions are refereed.

Volume 25 addresses contemporary challenges in private international law and arbitration, reflecting RGSL's expertise in the field. Contributors are invited to reflect on:

• the challenges facing the core EU private international law instruments;
• the consequences of CJEU case law in the field of arbitration;
• other themes within private international law.

Scholars from across the Baltic States and beyond are invited to contribute. The call is open internationally, so researchers and academics from India may submit.

• Length: not more than 25 pages or 65,000 characters with spaces.
• Format: Microsoft Word, 1.5 line spacing, normal margins; Times New Roman 12 pt for text and 10 pt for footnotes.
• Language: British English (UK English selected in Word). Contributions in German and French may also be considered.
• An abstract of 100 to 250 words and 5 to 10 keywords must be supplied.
• Authors must follow the BYIL Information for Authors (May 2026 revision), which supplements the Brill guidelines.
• The article must not have been published or be under consideration elsewhere; copyright is transferred to Brill on acceptance.

No submission or publication fee is stated. Authors are not paid a fee, but each receives a copy of the Yearbook and a free e-offprint of the article.

The Yearbook also accepts reviews of books published internationally and locally, including books in languages other than English. Reviews should not exceed five pages and go to Ligita Gjortlere as Book Review Editor.
