About the Workshop

The Gender, Sexuality and International Law Interest Group (GSILIG) of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law (ANZSIL) invites paper proposals for a virtual workshop titled Care and International Law: Rethinking Responsibility and Global Justice. The workshop is convened by Dr Caitlin Biddolph (University of Technology Sydney) and Adrienne Ringin, and will be held online over Zoom on 29-30 October 2026.

The workshop places the ethics and practice of care at the centre of international legal enquiry, asking how ideas of responsibility, relationality and global justice might be reimagined through a care lens.

Theme and Scope

The organisers welcome contributions that engage with care and international law across a broad range of themes, including the ethics of care and international legal responsibility, gender and global justice, and the place of care in international institutions and practice. Submissions taking doctrinal, theoretical, empirical or interdisciplinary approaches are all encouraged.

Who Can Submit

The organisers welcome submissions from doctoral researchers, established scholars, and practitioners. Applicants should indicate their time zone in their submission to assist with scheduling across the ANZSIL region and beyond.

Submission Guidelines

To be considered, please submit the following to gsilig@anzsil.org by 31 August 2026:

  • An abstract of up to 300 words
  • A short biography of up to 200 words
  • Your time zone

Successful applicants will be expected to submit draft papers of between 6,000 and 8,000 words by 1 October 2026, ahead of the workshop.

Publication

The organisers aim for the workshop to result in an edited collection or a journal special issue. All papers will go through peer review prior to publication.
