About the Journal

The Christ University Law Journal (CULJ), ISSN 2278-4322, is a biannual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal published by the School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. It seeks to facilitate greater interest and deeper insight in various fields of law among students, academicians and legal scholars, and provides a platform for discussions, comments and concerns on recent legal issues and developments. The journal targets academic institutions, research centres, policy makers and government organizations, and follows an open access policy under which all issues are available online.

About the Call

The Journal and Publication Society of the School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) invites submissions for the 30th issue (Vol. 16, No. 1) of the Christ University Law Journal, covering the January to June 2027 period. Submissions are invited in the form of research articles, case comments (2026) and book reviews (2026 publication).

Theme: The Sustainable Economy Loop

Submissions must be based on the broad themes that fall within the scope and ambit of a sustainable economy loop as enshrined in the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  • SDG 1 (No Poverty)
  • SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)
  • SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure)
  • SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities)
  • SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)

Authors may deal with the above-mentioned goals individually or club two or more of them. The journal states that its focal point demands a specific, pointed discussion on law and policy, and authors are expected to bring out a solid legal issue or policy gap in the goals they choose. A connection may also be drawn with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), including an examination of the judicial process in fostering these ideals. The emphasis should be on identifying the underlying legal problems that exist and providing a roadmap towards achieving the 2030 Agenda.

Who Can Submit

The journal is open to students, academicians and legal scholars. The call does not state any restriction on the category of authors. Submissions having more than one author must provide the name and contact details of a designated corresponding author, who is responsible for all communication with the editor and publisher.

Word Limits and Submission Guidelines

  • Research articles: 7,000 to 8,000 words
  • Case comment (2026): 2,000 words
  • Book reviews (foreign authors, 2026 publication): 1,500 to 2,000 words

Research articles must include an abstract of not more than 175 words, along with 5 relevant keywords arranged in alphabetical order. All submissions should be in 1.5 line spacing, font size 12 for text and 14 for headings, in Times New Roman. The method of citation is the Harvard Bluebook 21st edition.

Please note: the journal's general Author Guidelines page carries older, differing figures (6,000 to 10,000 words, a 300-word abstract and Bluebook 19th edition). The issue-specific call above is the current instruction for this issue. Authors may confirm with the editorial team if in doubt.

Publication Policy

Every contribution should be accompanied by a declaration that the article is original and has not been published nor submitted elsewhere for publication. All submitted articles are double-blind reviewed, and acceptance is subject to recommendation by the review panel and subsequent acceptance by the editor. Every accepted article will be copy-edited, and the Editorial Board reserves the right to make necessary revisions in keeping with the journal's style sheet and standard. Every author will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which the paper appears.

Fee
