Since 2026, the Annual Conference on European Tort Law (ACET) has hosted a session that gives emerging scholars, and those at the more junior end of the academy, the opportunity to present their work to the conference. Proposals for papers are invited from such colleagues whose work is comparative in approach and relevant to the conference's substantive interests in European tort law.
The ACET is a Europe-focused but global gathering of tort lawyers, taking place in Vienna. It is hosted jointly by the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law and the Institute for European Tort Law of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Graz.
The conference highlights include presentations on new developments from dozens of European jurisdictions, and a special session with papers on a theme of pressing interest. In 2027, this will be an analysis of tort law's role when dealing with natural disasters.
The session is for emerging scholars, up to approximately six years after completing a doctorate. The work should be comparative in approach and relevant to European tort law.
The organisers want to showcase the methodological diversity of new work in comparative law. They are interested in submissions on any substantive topic, involving any jurisdictions, relevant to the conference's focus on tort law in European and comparative perspective.
Successful participants in the panel may also wish to submit their work later for consideration by the Journal of European Tort Law.
