Call for Papers: Constitutional Studies (Comparative Constitutions Project & IACL-AIDC) [Open Access; No Publication Fee; Rolling]

Constitutional Studies is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal published twice a year, in June and December, by the Comparative Constitutions Project together with the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL-AIDC). It is hosted at the University of Texas at Austin with support from the Texas Digital Library.

The journal publishes work from a variety of disciplines addressing the theory and practice of constitutional government around the world, and welcomes both empirical and normative approaches as well as a wide range of research methods. Its editorial team comprises 99 scholars drawn from 39 countries.

The journal is currently active: Volume 12, Number 1 was published on 30 June 2026, and the journal announced its Ran Hirschl Prize for the best article in Constitutional Studies in July 2026.

The call is an open academic one. Submissions are invited from academics, researchers, doctoral candidates and practitioners working on constitutional theory, comparative constitutional law and constitutional government, in any discipline.

• No nationality or institutional restriction of any kind is imposed
• Indian scholars and practitioners are eligible to submit
• Work must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere

• Article length: 10,000 to 12,000 words for a normal research article
• Abstract: 100 to 200 words
• Keywords: 5 to 10 required
• Style: Chicago Manual of Style, notes-and-bibliography system
• Spelling: American English for English-language submissions
• Figures: supplied as individual PNG files
• Anonymity: all author-identifying information must be removed before submission, as review is double-blind

Submissions are accepted in English, French or Spanish, with plans to add Arabic, Mandarin and Russian.

A manuscript accepted in French or Spanish will be translated into English, either by the journal or by the author. An English-language piece may in turn be translated into any of the 32 additional languages spoken by members of the editorial team, giving accepted work a bilingual publication route.

The editorial team performs an initial evaluation of every manuscript. Qualifying manuscripts are then assigned to anonymous reviewers. The journal commits to reviewing submissions in a timely fashion, though it does not publish a fixed turnaround period.

Research involving human subjects requires institutional review board approval.

There is no fee of any kind. The journal states that it does not charge any fees for authors to publish their work or for readers to access it. There is no article processing charge, no submission charge and no reading charge.

Submissions are rolling and continuously open. There is no dated cut-off.
