About the journal

The Journal of Corporate and Financial Laws (JCFL) is the newly launched flagship commercial law journal of the Centre for Corporate Law, Governance and Financial Laws (CCLGFL) at National Law University, Delhi (NLUD). Its inaugural volume was published in August 2026. The journal serves as a source of contemporary discourse on corporate and commercial law by publishing articles by students, academicians and practitioners. It focuses on contemporary relevance to legal and financial challenges and encourages critical analysis, reform proposals and comparative studies that contribute to the evolution of business law in India and globally. The journal is Open Access.

About the Centre

The CCLGFL was constituted in 2025 as the successor to the Centre for Business and Financial Laws and the Centre for Corporate Governance, with a mandate covering corporate law, corporate governance and financial laws. It promotes research, scholarship and dialogue on legal, regulatory and policy issues affecting businesses, financial markets and corporate institutions, and undertakes round-table conferences and discussions with policymakers, regulators, practitioners and other stakeholders. It maintains the CCLGFL Blog and the Journal, which invite contributions from students, academicians and practitioners.

Themes

The journal publishes articles on these themes and areas of law under the broad umbrella of corporate and commercial laws:

  • Banking and Finance Law
  • Company Law
  • Competition Law
  • Contract Law
  • Foreign Investment
  • Insolvency Law
  • Insurance Law
  • Securities Law and Capital Markets

Categories of submissions

  • Long Articles: above 5,000 words
  • Essays: 3,000 to 5,000 words
  • Book Reviews or Case/Legislative Comments: 1,500 to 3,000 words

These word limits are exclusive of footnotes and merely indicative. Speaking footnotes are discouraged. The Editorial Board retains discretion on flexibility in the word limit.

Manuscript requirements

  • Submissions must not be descriptive. They must be critically evaluative while contributing to the existing literature on the subject.
  • Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • Co-authorship is limited to a maximum of two individuals, though the Editorial Board may relax this case by case.
  • A-4 size with 1-inch margins on all four sides.
  • Main text: Times New Roman, 12 point, 1.15 line spacing, justified.
  • Internal headings: first-level numbered I, II and so on; second-level numbered A, B and so on; third-level numbered (i), (ii) and so on.
  • Footnotes: Times New Roman, 10 point, 1.0 line spacing, left aligned.
  • All references in footnotes. Endnotes and in-text citations are strictly prohibited.
  • An abstract of not more than 300 words and five keywords capturing the theme of the submission.
  • Original work, not previously published or under consideration elsewhere.
  • No identifying information such as author name, institutional affiliation, contact details or other personal details.
  • Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy of all facts and information.

Citation style, AI and plagiarism check

All submissions are checked for AI-generated and plagiarised content, and those exceeding the limit are summarily rejected. It is advisable to use Supreme Court Cases (SCC) or All India Reporter (AIR) citations for case law.

The journal’s two documents differ on two points. The submission guidelines page names the Bluebook, 20th edition, and a 15% limit; the call for papers PDF names OSCOLA 5th Edition and a 20% limit. Confirm both with the journal at nlud.jcfl@nludelhi.ac.in before submitting.

Review process

All submissions go through a three-tier double-blind peer review process.

  • Tier 1, Preliminary Screening: an initial assessment of whether the submission falls within the journal’s mandate and complies with the submission guidelines and the plagiarism and AI policy.
  • Tier 2, Detailed Substantive and Stylistic Review: the Editorial Board evaluates originality, coherence, footnotes, structure and clarity of arguments. Manuscripts may be sent back for suggestions and changes, and acceptance depends on the Board being satisfied with how they are incorporated.
  • Tier 3: the journal’s documents describe this stage differently. The call for papers PDF says that after acceptance by the Editorial Board, manuscripts go to a peer reviewer, and final acceptance depends on incorporating the reviewer’s comments. The web page says manuscripts are reviewed by the Student Editor-in-Chief and then the Faculty Editor-in-Chief, and may be accepted, rejected or sent back with suggested changes.

The Editorial Board may reject a manuscript at any stage until final acceptance has been communicated to the authors.

How to submit

Submit through the journal’s Google Form only; submissions made in any other form are not accepted. Name the document “[Full Name of the Author(s)]_[Title of Submission]”. The deadline for Volume II is 11:59 p.m. on 8 January 2027. For queries, write to nlud.jcfl@nludelhi.ac.in.
