About the journal

The Journal of National Law University Delhi (JNLUD) is the flagship journal of National Law University Delhi (ISSN 2277-4017). It is a general, double blind peer reviewed journal that publishes original articles in all branches of law, with separate sections for recent developments in the legislative, judicial and policy fields, case comments and book reviews. It aims to provide a platform for multi-disciplinary and critical legal discussion on themes of law, society and justice, and encourages academics in law and cognate disciplines to revisit and reimagine the boundaries of law through innovations in method and form.

The journal is guided by an editorial committee and an advisory board of legal luminaries from around the world. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court is the ex officio Patron-in-Chief. Previous issues are available in digital format through different databases including Hein Online.

What is invited

JNLUD welcomes original and previously unpublished articles, notes, comments and book reviews for its upcoming issue (Vol. 13, 2027). Submissions will be accepted till January 31, 2027.

  • Short articles: typically around 6000-8000 words.
  • Long articles: typically around 8000-10000 words.
  • Notes and comments: short pieces of less than 5000 words with a narrower scope of inquiry than articles, which may analyse recent cases, legislation or policy.
  • Book reviews: generally around 2500 words, critically analysing the ideas and themes of the book rather than merely summarising it.

All word counts include footnotes.

Who can submit

Academicians, professionals and doctoral researchers are invited to submit their work. Co-authorship up to three authors is allowed. The journal is currently unable to accept submissions from students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies, who are invited to submit to the NLUD Journal of Legal Studies instead. Submissions from research scholars, including doctoral scholars, will be considered.

Format and citation

  • Main text: Times Roman, size 12, line spacing 1.5.
  • Footnotes: Times Roman, size 10, line spacing 1.
  • Citation style: OSCOLA (4th edition).
  • Each submission except a book review must carry an abstract of not more than 300 words and five keywords.
  • Author details and affiliation are captured only through the Google Form. The manuscript itself must not refer to the identity of the author, to allow anonymous screening and peer review.
  • Manuscripts must be in MS-Word (doc./docx.) format.
  • Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size), in EPS, PS, JPEG or TIFF format, or in Word files for figures drawn in Word.

Review process

Review has two stages: a desk review by the Editorial Board and an article review by an anonymous referee, in a double-blind peer review in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. The editors aim to complete the process, from submission to a publication decision, within 10-12 weeks. If a manuscript is accepted, the decision will be communicated to the author within 12-15 weeks of submission.

Open access

JNLUD follows an Open Access Policy. Content is freely available on the journal's website without any time limit, and all published content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY).

Editorial policy

  • Only original and unpublished work should be submitted, and it must not be under consideration elsewhere.
  • Authors must make sure their work does not infringe the rights of third parties and that they have permissions for cited work.
  • All submissions are scrutinised for plagiarism, and plagiarised manuscripts will be rejected.
  • An individualised response may not be possible in every case, given the number of submissions.
  • The decision of the Editorial Board is final.
  • There are no submission fees, publication fees or page charges.
