About the journal

The NMIMS Student Law Review is the flagship law journal of Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, SVKM's NMIMS (Deemed to be University), Mumbai. Launched in 2018, it is an annual, student-edited and peer-reviewed journal published under the aegis of the School, run by students under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Eight volumes have been published so far, and the archives are available on the journal's website.

The editorial board has opened submissions for Volume IX (2026-27). The call welcomes interdisciplinary work that analyses contemporary legal issues.

Themes and tracks

Submissions must fall within one of the four main themes below. The tracks are suggestive, not exhaustive, and a topic outside the listed tracks receives equal consideration on merit.

  • Business Law: corporate governance and compliance; corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and insolvency law; competition/antitrust law; banking, finance and securities regulation; taxation law; contract and commercial law; labour and employment law.
  • Intellectual Property Law: patent law; copyright and design law; trademark law; trade secrets and confidential information; IP and emerging tech; traditional knowledge and geographical indications; IP licensing and enforcement.
  • Constitutional Law: fundamental rights; federalism and Centre-State relations; judicial review and basic structure doctrine; constitutional interpretation and comparative constitutionalism; electoral law and democracy; emergency powers and rule of law; constitutional rights of marginalised groups.
  • Criminal Law: criminal procedure and evidence; white-collar and economic crime; cyber crime and digital forensics; sentencing, punishment and prison reform; criminal law and human rights; gender and criminal law; juvenile justice and criminology.

Categories and word limits

  • Book Review (2,000 to 4,000 words): a crisp account of a recently published book on the themes, including the issues explored and the author's arguments.
  • Case Notes and Comments (1,500 to 3,000 words): a pivotal assessment of a recent or landmark judicial pronouncement, legislation or bill.
  • Short Articles (3,000 to 5,000 words): an in-depth but concise study of a specific legal issue.
  • Long Articles (5,000 to 8,000 words): a comprehensive analysis of a contemporary legal issue that either identifies the lacunae or covers the subject holistically, with critical analysis.

Authorship

Manuscripts must be original and unpublished. Co-authorship of up to two authors, from the same or different institutions, is permitted. Where there is more than one author, all authors must be CC'd on the submission email and named in its sign-off (for example, "Regards, X and Y").

Formatting and review

  • English (UK); Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5, justified.
  • Citations in Bluebook (20th ed.) as footnotes; no bibliography, no header or footer.
  • The review is blind: the manuscript file must be anonymised, with no names or identifying information.
  • Plagiarism and AI content must each be under 10%. A plagiarism report and an AI report, preferably from Turnitin, must accompany the submission.
  • Follow the NMIMS Law Review Style Guide 2026-27 closely.

How to submit

Email the manuscript in .docx format to lawreview@nmims.edu with the subject line "Submission for NMIMS Student Law Review Volume IX", attaching the plagiarism and AI reports. Email is the only accepted mode of submission.

Deadline and fee

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis; the call states no closing date. The call mentions no submission or publication fee.
