The Pécs Journal of International and European Law (PJIEL, ISSN 2064-9401) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Centre for European Research and Education (CEERE) of the Faculty of Law, University of Pécs, Hungary. It was founded in 2014 and is published twice a year: the first issue in January-February and the second in August-September.
The journal states that it is indexed in HeinOnline, DOAJ, Ulrichsweb, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and REAL-J.
PJIEL accepts submissions on any topic within international and European law, including the interaction of these legal systems with national legal systems and with each other, with specific attention to legal developments in the Western Balkans.
The journal publishes in these sections:
The call welcomes contributions from scholars, practitioners and advanced doctoral students. There is no nationality or jurisdiction restriction in the call. PJIEL only accepts manuscripts written in English.
The indicative deadlines are 15 March (Issue I) and 15 October (Issue II) each year. The journal states that submissions are welcome at any time and are processed on a rolling basis, so a paper received after 15 October 2026 is considered for an upcoming issue.
The editorial team first decides whether a manuscript is acceptable for peer review, including a formal and text similarity check; this usually takes 4-6 weeks. Accepted manuscripts then go to double-blind review by two external reviewers, which usually takes another 4-6 weeks. Authors are notified at each stage.
PJIEL does not charge authors for publication, directly or indirectly.
Register or log in on the PJIEL submission platform and submit the manuscript there. Questions about the formal requirements can be sent to the editors at pjiel@ajk.pte.hu.
