About the Institute

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) is a public law school and National Law University located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was established as the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law Institute in 2005 and has since been providing undergraduate and post-graduate legal education.

The University is fully funded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and ranked 15th among India's law institutes in the 2021 edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) report by the Ministry of Education.

About the Journal

The RMLNLU Law Review is an annual peer-reviewed journal published by the Journal Committee of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. It seeks to provide insights and views into contemporary legal issues and to encourage conversation around them. The Law Review runs parallel to the RMLNLU Law Journal on CMET (Communications, Media, Entertainment, and Technology).

Having completed sixteen years as a reputed journal, the Journal Committee has announced the call for papers for Volume XVII. The Editorial Board works in close collaboration with an Advisory Board to select articles for publication. The Advisory Board is diversely composed of professors, advocates and legal professionals, whose expertise provides a holistic review of each article. Great emphasis is placed on quality research, relevance of topic and novel contributions during the scrutiny phase.

Categories and Word Limits

The Journal accepts submissions from law students and professionals all over the country and abroad, under the following categories:

  • Articles: 5,000 to 7,000 words
  • Essays: 4,000 to 5,000 words
  • Case notes and comments: 2,000 to 3,000 words
  • Book reviews: 2,000 to 3,000 words

Word limits are exclusive of footnotes and the abstract. Submissions may be on any contemporary legal issue (there is no restrictive theme).

Review Process

  • There shall be a rigorous review process comprising three stages.
  • Members of the Advisory Board will be closely involved in the review process, ensuring a greater standard of review and identification of quality academic writing.
  • Authors shall be intimated about the status of their manuscript at every stage.

Formatting Guidelines

Main content:

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 12 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Margin: 1 inch from all sides
  • Alignment: Justified

Footnotes:

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 10 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.0
  • All sources must be cited strictly in accordance with the latest OSCOLA (4th edition) format
  • No endnotes and no speaking (descriptive) footnotes are allowed

Title and headings:

  • Title: Bold, Underlined, in Capitals, Size 16, Centre aligned
  • Headings: Bold, in Capitals, Size 14, Left aligned

General Submission Guidelines

  • An abstract of about 250 to 300 words and 5 keywords must mandatorily be included in the same word document as part of the submission.
  • The contents must in no way, directly or indirectly, indicate or reference the identity of the author or authors.
  • Co-authorship is allowed to a maximum of two members. However, co-authorship is not allowed for book reviews and case notes or comments.
  • All submissions must adhere to a strict plagiarism limit of 15%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be outright rejected.
  • All submissions must comply with a strict AI-generated content limit of 15%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be automatically rejected.

How to Submit

  • Submissions may be emailed to lawreview.rmlnlu@gmail.com in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
  • The name of the attached document must be the name or names of the author or authors.
  • Only one submission per author or team of co-authors is permissible. In case of more than one submission, only the one received first will be considered for review.
  • The subject line of the email must read: 'Article/Essay/Case Comment/Book Review for Volume XVII'.
  • The cover letter must be included in the body of the email and must contain all relevant biographical details: name of the author or authors, their degrees, designation, name of college, university or institution, postal address, phone number and email ID. A separate attachment for a cover letter shall not be entertained.

General Instructions

  • The submission must exhibit originality in thought, critical evaluation and careful interpretation. Submission of a paper shall be taken to imply that it is an unpublished work and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  • The Editors' decision shall be final and binding. They reserve the sole rights to the publication of the selected articles in addition to, among other things, any edits, amendments or reproduction.
  • The contributions presented to and accepted for publication, and the copyrights therein, shall be the intellectual property of the Journal Committee, RMLNLU.

Fee

The official call for papers prescribes no submission fee and no publication charge.
