Call for Papers: Third Annual Legal Philosophy and Constitutional Theory Conference, University of Surrey, UK [19-20 March 2027; Travel Covered for Selected Authors]

The Georgetown Center for the Constitution at Georgetown University Law Center invites paper submissions for the Third Annual Legal Philosophy and Constitutional Theory Conference, to be held on 19-20 March 2027 at the University of Surrey, England. The Georgetown Center for the Constitution co-sponsors the conference.

The conference exists to give authors rigorous, constructive feedback on works in progress. Each selected paper is paired with a senior scholar in the author’s field, who prepares dedicated commentary on the paper, and an open discussion with the full group follows.

Submissions are welcome in constitutional theory, legal philosophy and related fields. The organisers particularly welcome papers concerning artificial intelligence:

• AI and human consciousness
• AI, expression and conscience

Papers outside these themes remain fully eligible.

Scholars at any career stage may submit. Special consideration will be given to papers submitted by junior scholars, but papers by scholars of any seniority are eligible this year. The call is not restricted by country, so scholars based in India may submit.

• Project stage: unpublished drafts developed enough to benefit from focused commentary, but early enough that the author can still incorporate what they hear.
• Draft flexibility: the version submitted by the initial deadline need not be final. Selected presenters will have time to revise before submitting the version circulated to commentators and participants.
• Anonymisation: papers are selected through blind review, so remove your name and any other identifying information from the paper you submit.

• Dedicated commentary on the paper from a senior scholar in the author’s field, followed by an open discussion with the full group.
• Travel to England covered for authors of selected papers.
• Consideration for publication in Jurisprudence, the peer-reviewed journal of legal and political thought.

No submission or registration fee is mentioned in the call.

Submit the anonymised paper through the official online submission form by 30 October 2026, 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time (about 9:29 a.m. IST on 31 October). The form may ask you to sign in with a Google account.

The organisers will follow up with selected participants about presentation logistics, commentator assignments, travel arrangements and the final schedule.
