Call for Papers: Workshop on Computational Approaches to Constitutional Law and Government, Copenhagen, Denmark [22-23 April 2027; Two Nights' Accommodation Covered]

The Centre for European, Comparative, and Constitutional Legal Studies (CECS) at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, invites paper proposals for a workshop on Computational Approaches to Constitutional Law and Government, to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 22-23 April 2027.
The workshop brings together scholars working across constitutional law, comparative politics, judicial studies, empirical legal studies and computational social science. It asks how computational methods can advance substantive research on constitutions, courts, constitutional change and the institutions of constitutional government.
Themes
The call welcomes theoretical, empirical and methodological work on:
- constitutional texts and judicial decisions;
- constitutional design and change;
- judicial behaviour and disagreement;
- citation and textual reuse;
- constitutional and political discourse;
- comparative constitutional datasets; and
- applications of NLP, machine learning, word embeddings and large language models.
Contributions on validation, interpretability and construct validity are also welcome.
Workshop format and publication
The workshop will be small and discussion-intensive, with about 12 participants and no parallel sessions. Accepted participants circulate a full paper before the workshop. The workshop may also form the basis for a possible edited volume; taking part in any later publication project is optional.
Who can apply
The call is addressed to scholars working in the fields above. The application form asks every applicant for their institution or affiliation and their position or academic title. The call sets no restriction by country or nationality.

- An abstract of 300-400 words
- A short biographical note of up to 100 words
- An academic or personal webpage (optional)
The form also asks whether, if selected, you would be able to submit a full paper by 15 March 2027.
Accommodation and travel
Accommodation for two nights in Copenhagen will be covered for workshop participants. Travel costs are not currently guaranteed. The organisers are seeking external funding to support participants' travel, so plan for your own travel funding for now.
Fee
The official call mentions no registration or submission fee.
How to apply
Submit the proposal through the University of Copenhagen's online workshop application form (linked below) by 5 October 2026. The form is set to close at midnight Copenhagen time at the end of 5 October.
Selection and next steps
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 25 October 2026. The call gives 1 April 2027 as the full paper deadline, while the application form asks whether you could submit a full paper by 15 March 2027. If selected, plan for the earlier date or confirm it with the organiser. The workshop takes place on 22-23 April 2027.
