Call for Submissions: FLUID Newsletter #6 [Theme: Gender and War] | No Submission Fee

The School of Law is a part of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. CHRIST was the first institution in Karnataka to be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and currently holds an A+ grade awarded in 2022. The School of Law teaches students from across India as well as the Middle East and Mauritius, and its courses are approved by the Bar Council of India.

The Gender Studies Committee at the School of Law creates a space for students to unlearn indoctrinated ideas, engage in thoughtful discussions on gender identity, feminism and queer theory, and deliberate on issues at the intersection between "the private" and "the public". The Committee frames policies, reviews legislation, and collaborates with national and state-level interdisciplinary departments, ministries and commissions. It also runs academic reading circles, guest lectures, certificate courses and open forums.

FLUID #6 is coordinated by Faculty Co-ordinators Prof. Dr. Valarmathi R. and Dr. Tridipa Sehanobis Das, with Student Convenors Arpita Sibi and Evonne Christopher.

FLUID is the student-led annual newsletter of the Gender Studies Committee, dedicated to exploring openness, adaptability and a willingness to break down traditional binaries, and to discovering the complexities and nuances of gender.

The newsletter is an exercise in exploration and in challenging our thinking about gender. It aims to provide a space that goes beyond the confines of academic curricula, so contributors can freely express opinions, views, beliefs and conceptions about the world, and to expand the pool of knowledge around the reality of gender and sexuality through academic and creative work. This is the sixth edition.

The theme for FLUID Newsletter #6 is Gender and War. The handbook sets out nine suggested sub-themes, each with a detailed note:

• The Effects of Western Imperialism on Gender and the Third World
• Historical Warrior Women: The Disconnect Between the Mythology and the Power Conceded
• The Politics of Armed Struggles of Women and Queer Groups: the Obligation of "Righteousness"
• Codes of Conduct of Warfare: Protections Afforded to Women and Children
• The Exploits of National Armies Beyond the Battlefield and their Costs to Civilians
• Gendered Propaganda and Gender as a Tool of Propaganda in War
• Mental Health Dynamics in Post-War Situations
• The Physical Infrastructure of Armies: The Implicit Exclusion of Women
• Women, Peace and the Security Agenda

The sub-themes are described as suggested rather than exhaustive. Full descriptive notes for each are set out in the handbook.

Submissions are invited from law practitioners, academicians, experts, scholars, NGOs, researchers and students. Co-authorship is permitted.

Submissions are invited in any academic, literary or creative format, including articles, poems, artwork, photographs and any other form of expression.

Where a submission falls into one of the following categories, the corresponding guidelines must be followed.

Articles and opinion pieces:

• Font: Garamond
• Body font size 12; headings font size 14
• Line spacing 1.5, justified
• Citation style: 21st edition Bluebook for legal articles; 7th edition APA for interdisciplinary or humanities papers

Short stories and poems:

• Font: Garamond
• Body font size 12
• Line spacing 1.5

Art and photography:

• High resolution image, 800 to 5000 pixels on the longest side
• File format JPG or JPEG, maximum file size 5MB
• Photographs must have appropriate lighting, be shot with a high resolution camera or smartphone, and carry no watermarks

The handbook does not prescribe a word limit for any category.

There is a strict prohibition on both plagiarism and the use of generative AI in creating submissions. A threshold of 10% is set for plagiarism, to account for quotes and similar phrasing, and a threshold of 15% is set for AI-generated content, to filter out false positives. Any plagiarised or AI-generated work will be immediately rejected by the Editorial Board.

The Editorial Board consists of the Committee Members, Convenors and Faculty Coordinators of the Gender Studies Committee. Acceptance is subject to the approval of the Editorial Board, whose decisions are final, and the Board retains the right to reject any submission it deems necessary. Selections are also subject to the decision of the supervising Faculty Coordinators and the final approval of the University's Publication Office. Contributors may be asked to revise a submission before final acceptance or publication.

A contributor who wishes to remain anonymous for the purpose of publication should inform the Editorial Board at the time of submission, and the request will be noted and respected.

Copyright in the contribution belongs to CHRIST (Deemed to be University). If the same submission is to be published subsequently elsewhere, prior permission must be sought from the Editorial Board by email.

The call states no submission fee, publication fee or processing charge.

All submissions must be emailed to the Editorial Board at newsletterteamgsc@gmail.com, along with the author's or authors' name, course name, and university details or institutional affiliation where applicable.

Submissions close on 17 October 2026 at 11:59 PM, and acceptances are notified on 24 October 2026.
