The Canadian Yearbook of International Law / Annuaire canadien de droit international, established in 1961, describes itself as Canada's leading peer-reviewed international legal journal. It is issued annually under the auspices of the Canadian Council on International Law and published by Cambridge University Press. The editors are Kristen Boon (University of Ottawa) and Vladyslav Lanovoy (Université Laval).
Each volume contains articles in public and private international law, a notes and comments section, a digest of Inter-American law, a digest of international economic law, a section on current Canadian practice in international law, a digest of important Canadian cases, and book reviews.
The Yearbook invites articles, notes and comments, in English or in French, that advance critical thinking in all areas of public or private international law. The journal also accepts book reviews.
Open to authors from Canada and around the world. The author instructions state that submissions are invited from Canadian and non-Canadian authors alike, so authors based in India may submit.
The call is open on a rolling basis. The official call for papers (January 2026) says submissions for each annual volume are encouraged by 28 February, though manuscripts are considered on a rolling basis, and the Yearbook publishes articles online throughout the year until the annual volume is complete.
The journal's author instructions page gives a different date: 31 January for the volume relating to the immediately preceding calendar year, while also stating that submissions are encouraged as the Yearbook has a rolling acceptance policy.
No submission fee is stated. Cambridge University Press states that this is a hybrid journal and that article processing charges do not apply to articles that are not published Gold Open Access.
Authors who choose Gold Open Access pay an APC of GBP 2,610 or USD 3,655 (additional taxes may apply), unless the cost is covered by an institutional open access agreement or by funding from the author's funding body or institution.
Submit electronically through ScholarOne, the journal's submission and peer-review platform (a ScholarOne account, separate from a Cambridge Core account, is required). Read the author instructions before submitting. Queries go to the Editorial Office at CYIL-Editor@uottawa.ca.
