Overview

The CNLU-CARCIL National Deal Negotiation Competition on FinTech Laws, 2026 invites you to test and refine your negotiation, transactional and commercial drafting skills by simulating real-world deal-making at the intersection of finance, technology and law. The competition is held as Day 3 of the CARCIL National Corporate Fest, 2026.

It runs in three hierarchical stages: a written Deal Brief submission, virtual preliminary negotiation rounds for the top 24 teams, and on-campus final rounds for the top 8 teams at CNLU, Patna on 5 September 2026.

About the organiser

The competition is organised by Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna through its Centre for Advanced Research on Corporate and Insolvency Laws (CARCIL). CARCIL is the centre behind the CARCIL National Corporate Fest and the CARCIL Corporate Law Review.

Format and structure

The competition proceeds through three stages, with progression depending entirely on performance in the preceding stage:

  • Stage I (Preliminary Submission): Each team submits two Deal Briefs (one from each side), evaluated out of 100 marks on commercial awareness, identification of key issues, clarity of strategy and creativity of proposed solutions.
  • Stage II (Virtual Preliminary Rounds): The top 24 teams qualify for two preliminary virtual negotiation sessions conducted online.
  • Stage III (On-Campus Final Rounds): The top 8 teams advance to live, on-campus negotiation rounds at CNLU on 5 September 2026.

Who can apply

Each team consists of 2 eligible students, one acting as the Client and the other as the Counsel, with roles fixed at registration. Eligible participants include:

  • Full-time 3-year or 5-year LL.B. students from BCI-recognised universities
  • LL.M. students from UGC-accredited universities
  • Undergraduate or postgraduate students in Finance, Management, Economics or related fields from recognised institutions

Registration fee

The registration fee is Rs. 2,000 per team. Teams that qualify to the top 24 for the Stage II preliminary rounds pay an additional Rs. 3,000 per team.

How to apply

Register through the official Google Form before 15 July 2026 and pay the prescribed registration fee. Each team is allotted a Team Code on registration, to be used in place of its name and institution. All deadlines follow Indian Standard Time (IST).

Checklist

  • Form a team of 2 and assign Client and Counsel roles
  • Confirm eligibility (law/finance/management/economics student)
  • Complete the official registration form before 15 July 2026
  • Pay the Rs. 2,000 registration fee
  • Prepare two anonymised Deal Briefs for Stage I (max 2 pages each, Times New Roman 12, 1.5 spacing)
