About

Code.Court.Future is a single-day National Workshop on "The Nuances, Applications, and Legal Literacy Surrounding AI in India", organised by Xavier Law School, St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, in association with the Technology Counsel Foundation (TECOF), an initiative by IIT Kharagpur alumni. The programme combines a technical understanding of Artificial Intelligence with the legal and regulatory frameworks governing it, focusing on the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, data privacy, ethics, and practical application.

Theme and Focus

The workshop is built around three interconnected pillars: AI literacy; understanding AI's impact on law and work; and real-world policy and privacy discussions through structured debate. Through demonstrations, simulations, and hands-on exercises, participants gain practical exposure to AI-powered research, drafting, compliance, and workflow tools, alongside the ethical and legal considerations of using them responsibly.

Event Structure and Schedule

  • 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM: Morning session - AI awareness, ethics and legal literacy, followed by a tabletop exercise based on a data breach scenario
  • 1:30 PM - 1:45 PM: Theatrical performance by voice artist Ms. Papiya Chakraborty
  • 1:45 PM - 2:30 PM: Lunch break
  • 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Oxford-style panel debate on the motion "This House Believes that Artificial Intelligence creates more opportunities than it destroys"
  • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Networking session and high tea

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate law students
  • Students from allied disciplines with an interest in AI, technology, policy, governance, or data protection
