DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor at Chanakya National Law University, Patna (Rs 1.5 Lakh/month)

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna has issued Rolling Advertisement No. 46/2026-27(Appt.) dated 14 July 2026, inviting online applications for the post of DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor under the SPRIHA Scheme for the financial year 2026-27. There is one vacancy.

The DPIIT-IPR Chair was established at Chanakya National Law University, Patna in April 2023 by notification of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The Chair works to build a sustainable intellectual property ecosystem within the university and to support researchers in IP creation, protection and commercialisation.

An applicant must satisfy any one of the following:

• Has served as, or meets the UGC eligibility criteria for serving as, a Professor or an Associate Professor, and possesses sufficient teaching and research experience in Intellectual Property Rights.
• Is an IP attorney who has practised IPR law for a minimum of ten years, or any other professional who has gained significant recognition in the field of IPR with not less than ten years of experience in the said field (supporting document to be attached).
• Is a retired official of the IP Office under CGPDTM, holding a doctorate degree, with a minimum of five years of experience working at Level 12 or above, such as Controller of Patent & Design, Registrar of Trademark & Geographical Indications, or Registrar of Copyrights.

An individual above the age of 70 years is not eligible for appointment as IPR Chair. The Chair may serve for a term of up to five years from the date of appointment, and no person may continue as IPR Chair beyond five years from that date.

The appointment of the IPR Chair is on a full-time contract basis. The salary is Rs 1.5 Lakh per month (consolidated).

• Introducing IPR as a credit-bearing course at the undergraduate level, which is mandatory for all IPR Chairs and is required to claim grants from DIPP.
• Introducing post-graduate degree and diploma courses on IPR, exclusive curricula for doctoral and post-doctoral studies, and certificate, distance learning and online courses on IPR.
• Providing full-time and part-time scholarships and fellowships for research in legal, economic, socio-legal, social, technological and entrepreneurial aspects of new and emerging IPR areas.
• Setting up a physical and electronic repository of IPR-related information and case studies at the university.
• Initiating, planning and implementing research in IPR law and policy in collaboration with law firms, corporate houses, government departments, public sector undertakings and funding agencies.
• Planning and conducting training and extension activities such as workshops, seminars and round-table conferences.
• Providing inputs to the legislature, executive and judiciary on trends in IPR law and policy, and assisting DPIIT in its IPR law and policy activities.
• Reporting annually and periodically to DPIIT and the University, undertaking survey studies and research projects, preparing toolkits and instruction materials, and facilitating the filing of IPR applications. IPR Chairs may enrol Ph.D. scholars in the field of IP as per UGC/AICTE or Institute norms.
