About National Law University, Tripura

National Law University, Tripura (NLUT) is a state national law university established by Tripura Act 3 of 2022, located at Narsingarh, Agartala, West Tripura. In accordance with the faculty posts sanctioned by the Government of Tripura, the University has invited applications for regular faculty positions vide Advertisement No. NLUT/Faculty-Recruitment/2026/01.

Positions and Pay

  • Professor of Law (Regular) — 2 posts (UR); pay scale INR 1,44,200 to INR 2,18,200, Academic Level 14 as per UGC-recommended 7th CPC pay matrix (Revised).
  • Associate Professor of Law (Regular) — 1 post (UR); pay scale INR 1,31,400 to INR 2,17,100, Academic Level 13A.
  • Assistant Professor of Sociology (Regular) — 1 post (SC); pay scale INR 57,700 to INR 1,82,400, Academic Level 10.

For the Professor and Associate Professor posts, candidates may be allowed to join on deputation basis.

Desirable Specialisation and Teaching Areas

  • Professor of Law: Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Corporate Law, Intellectual Property Law, Competition Law, Trade Law, Banking Law, International Law and other private law subjects.
  • Associate Professor of Law: Corporate Law, Intellectual Property Law, Competition Law, Trade Law, Banking Law, Arbitration and other private law subjects.

Eligibility (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Professor of Law: An eminent scholar with a Ph.D. in Law and/or a concerned/allied/relevant discipline, a minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 120 (UGC Regulations 2018, Appendix II, Table 2), with a minimum of 10 years of teaching/research experience and evidence of having successfully guided a doctoral candidate; OR an outstanding professional with a Ph.D. and 10 years of professional experience who has made significant contribution to the discipline.
  • Associate Professor of Law: A good academic record with a Ph.D. in Law and/or concerned/allied/relevant disciplines, a Master's degree in Law with at least 55% marks, a minimum of 8 years of teaching and/or research experience equivalent to Assistant Professor, with at least 7 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 75.
  • Assistant Professor of Sociology: A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject, plus UGC/CSIR NET (or SLET/SET), or a Ph.D. awarded per UGC M.Phil./Ph.D. Regulations 2009/2016 which exempts NET/SLET/SET as per the conditions in the notification.

Candidates with degrees, doctoral/post-doctoral experience or teaching experience from reputed universities in India and abroad would be preferred.

Application Fee

  • INR 1,500 for candidates belonging to Unreserved, SC (outside Tripura), ST (outside Tripura) and OBC categories.
  • INR 1,000 for candidates belonging to SC-Tripura, ST-Tripura and PwD categories.

The fee is payable online by scanning the QR code in the notification, or to the University's UCO Bank account (A/c No. 32490210001028, IFSC UCBA0003249, Narsingarh Branch; UPI: nlut@ucobank). The fee payment receipt must be uploaded in the online application form.

How to Apply

The application process is entirely online. Applicants must apply in the prescribed format through the online application form (Google Form) linked on the official website; applications in any other format will be rejected. All documents (degree certificates, mark sheets, publications, experience certificates, proof of reservation category, proof of age, NOC where applicable) must be scanned clearly and uploaded with the application. Hard copies are not required at the application stage.

Candidates who are currently employed must submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer, and applicants serving in Government/Semi-Government organisations, PSUs or autonomous bodies must apply through proper channel.

As per the corrigendum, applicants for the Assistant Professor post must also upload the duly completed Academic/Research Score form as per Appendix II, Table 3A of the UGC Regulations 2018, along with supporting documents.

Selection Process

The academic/research score (UGC Regulations 2018, Appendix II) is used only for shortlisting candidates for interview; selection is based on performance in the interview. Only shortlisted candidates will be called, and the University may conduct a written test and/or demo lecture at the time of the interview. Shortlisted candidates must produce original documents at the in-person interview, expected in the 3rd/4th week of July 2026. The University reserves the right to fill or not fill any advertised post.
