About the Programme

The Federal Scholar in Residence Programme 2027 is offered by the Institute for Comparative Federalism at Eurac Research in Bolzano/Bozen, South Tyrol, Italy. The programme welcomes both academics and practitioners working in the field of comparative federalism and related areas, granting the selected scholar a fully funded research residency of up to three weeks at the Institute.

Research Themes

Applications are welcome from scholars and practitioners working on areas including:

  • Comparative federalism and regional autonomies
  • Intergovernmental relations and multi-level governance
  • Language and fiscal policies
  • Participatory governance and democratic innovations
  • Constitutional resilience and deliberative constitutionalism

What the Residency Offers

  • A research residency of up to three weeks at the Institute for Comparative Federalism in Bolzano/Bozen (February recommended, coinciding with the Winter School on Federalism and Governance)
  • A dedicated research workspace and library access
  • Travel tickets (economic fare)
  • Accommodation in a single room in a standard guesthouse
  • The opportunity to publish in the Diversity Governance Papers (DiGoP) series

Eligibility

The programme is open to scholars and practitioners working in comparative federalism and the related research themes listed above. Applicants must have working-level English proficiency.

Submission Requirements

Each application must include:

  • An unpublished, anonymized full manuscript (full paper only, no research plans; no identifying information)
  • An abstract in English
  • A curriculum vitae
  • A motivation letter of maximum two pages
