About the Position

National Law University Delhi has invited expressions of interest for the contractual position of a full-time IPR Chair Professor under the DPIIT IPR Chair established at the University by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The position sits under the Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA).

This is a full-time contractual engagement based at the University's campus at Sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi. The advertisement is signed by the Registrar and dated 31 July 2026.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Promote teaching, research and capacity-building in Intellectual Property at the University.
  • Develop and strengthen IP curricula across academic programmes and foster high-quality research.
  • Contribute to building an IP knowledge base, including through engagement with global best practices.
  • Facilitate collaborations with academic institutions, industry and other stakeholders.
  • Support policy-oriented research and provide inputs on IP-related issues.
  • Undertake outreach and awareness activities, mentor students and researchers, and publish regularly on relevant platforms.

Eligibility

An individual is eligible for appointment as IPR Chair Professor if the candidate:

  • Has served as, or meets the UGC-prescribed eligibility criteria for serving as, a Professor or an Associate Professor, and possesses sufficient teaching and research experience in Intellectual Property Rights; or
  • Is an IP Attorney who has practised IPR law for a minimum of ten years, or any other professional who has gained significant recognition in the field of IPR with no less than ten years of experience in that field; or
  • Is a retired official of the IP Office under CGPDTM holding a doctorate degree, with a minimum of five years of experience working at Level 12 or above, such as Controller of Patent and Design, Registrar of Trade Marks and Geographical Indications, or Registrar of Copyrights.

Any individual above the age of 70 years is not eligible for appointment as IPR Chair. Detailed eligibility follows the SPRIHA norms notified by DPIIT, which are linked below.

Remuneration and Tenure

The IPR Chair Professor will receive a consolidated remuneration of Rs 1,50,000 per month. TDS at 10 percent will be deducted from the monthly remuneration as per NLU Delhi regulations, funded by the respective programme. No additional benefits or perks will be provided.

The appointment will be for an initial period of one year, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The appointment is purely temporary, confers no right to regularisation, does not carry benefits applicable to regular faculty, and is subject to verification of antecedents.

Selection Process

  • Candidates will be shortlisted on an evaluation of their application contents; shortlisting does not guarantee an interview or final selection.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview, the details of which will be communicated separately.
  • A three-member committee of eminent persons constituted by the Vice-Chancellor will review the applications and submit its recommendation to DPIIT.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview or interaction.

Interested candidates must apply online only through the University's recruitment portal at careers.nludelhi.ac.in, up to 16 August 2026. The last date for submission is 16 August 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs 1,000 online. SC/ST and PwD category candidates are exempted from the application fee. Applications that are incomplete, received after the last date, or not supported with the prescribed fee and required self-attested documents and testimonials will be rejected. Candidates currently in employment must apply through the proper channel.

Important Conditions

  • Candidates must fulfil all eligibility conditions as on the last date for receipt of applications; no additional documents will be considered thereafter.
  • False or incorrect information, concealment of facts or fake documents will lead to cancellation of candidature or appointment at any stage, and may lead to legal action.
  • Mere possession of the prescribed qualifications does not entitle a candidate to be called for an interview.
  • The University reserves the right to accept or reject any application, withdraw the advertisement, modify the selection process, or withhold the post at any stage without assigning any reason.
