About North-Eastern Hill University

North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is a central university headquartered at Shillong in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, with teaching campuses at Shillong and Tura. Its Department of Law sits within the School of Social Sciences on the Shillong campus.

This engagement is advertised by the Registrar Incharge under file number F.No.8-2/Estt.II(B)/GL/Advertisement/2026-3, dated 19 August 2026. The university lists it on its vacancy page as the Advertisement for the post of Guest Faculty 2026-2027, published on 19-08-2026.

The Law posts on offer

Guest Faculty positions are advertised across 43 department entries in eight Schools spanning the Shillong and Tura campuses. The Department of Law appears at serial number 35, under the School of Social Sciences.

  • Department: Law
  • Total number of positions: 5
  • Specialization as printed in the advertisement: Political Science, English, Sociology, Economics and Law
  • Campus: Shillong

The specialization column is reproduced exactly as the university has printed it, so applicants from the allied social science and language disciplines named there, as well as law, fall within the scope of these five posts.

Remuneration

Remuneration is at the rate of Rs 1,500 per lecture, subject to a maximum of Rs 50,000 per month, with conditions applying. Because payment is per lecture delivered, monthly earnings depend on the teaching load the department assigns, up to that ceiling.

  • No other emoluments, allowances or medical reimbursement are admissible.
  • No vacation salary is payable.
  • Guest and part-time faculty are not given the benefit of pension, gratuity or similar retirement benefits.

Who can apply

Online applications are invited from Indian nationals. The eligibility criteria and the other terms and conditions are those laid down in the UGC Regulations 2018 or the latest AICTE regulations, as the case may be, together with any subsequent notification or guidelines issued under them. The advertisement does not restate the qualification thresholds itself, so candidates should read the governing UGC or AICTE norms alongside the notice.

Nature and term of the engagement

The selection is made by the university purely on a temporary basis. The appointment runs for the current semester only, or until a regular faculty member joins the department, whichever is earlier. The advertisement records that the posts are purely for the defined short duration and are of the nature of Guest Faculty, so the engagement carries no assurance of continuation beyond the current semester.

Selection process

  • The date and time of the interview will be notified by the concerned department, in this case the Department of Law.
  • Merely fulfilling the essential qualifications does not entitle a candidate to be called for an interview. The university reserves the right to shortlist the total number of candidates called.
  • No TA or DA is paid to candidates for attending the interview.
  • For external candidates the interview may be conducted online.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online through the NEHU recruitment portal hosted on Samarth at https://nehut.samarth.edu.in/. Candidates create a new account using an email address and mobile number, then complete the application after logging in. The portal asks applicants to read the advertisement and the general instructions before registering, because the details entered at registration are carried through the whole application and cannot be changed afterwards.

Advertisement details are also published on the university website at www.nehu.ac.in. The last date for the application is 31 August 2026, and the advertisement states that no application will be entertained after the last date and time.

Points to weigh before applying

  • These are classroom teaching engagements on the Shillong campus, not remote positions.
  • The five Law posts are shared across the disciplines named in the specialization column, so the competition is not confined to law graduates alone.
  • The advertisement prescribes no application fee.
  • The same notice covers many other departments across both campuses, so the Samarth portal will show departments beyond Law.
